RPG Discussion Thread

Knights of the Old Republic (if you were Jedi). I felt accomplished.

The worst for me though was maybe Dragon Age: Origins. Just because I got the ultimate sacrifice ending and I cried. And cried. And cried like the baby I was. So sad, so moving just with one line, that's it! :'(
I'd have to say KotOR as well, but I preferred the Sith ending, something about
Revan and Bastila ruling the galaxy together that I really love. Probably because throughout the entire game I was thinking that they would end up together.

For Example:Resurrecting the "Materia" system from "FF VII" and apply it to the newest installment in the "FF" series.

How old are we talking about?
One of my favorite RPGs of all time is Dark Cloud, and it happened to be the first (and possibly the only) really great RPGs that I've played where the combat wasn't turn based. Of course, it is a PS2 game from late 1990s or early 2000s, so it isnt that old.
I'd like to see more RPG titles with real time fighting in them.
But the Georama system was really cool- something you don't see in a lot of games today. I'd really like to see a new game where you actually got to build the stages, and maybe even the dungeons. :p

Since the first "Final Fantasy" for the nes around 1990.

You know, newer RPG's have grown on me a lot. I personally hate random encounters now. I love being able to choose your battles. I don't know if I'd really bring any certain aspect back.

Haha exactly! I love the system of games such as Chrono Cross, ToS, etc, where you actually see an enemy on screen and if you bump into them a fight initiates. It is painful playing older RPG's where there is a random battle like literally every 5 steps! And yea KAZ, I also love the materia system and would like to see it again.

Any idea which game was first to used this method? The oldest I have played like that is Super Mario RPG.

to be honest i rarely discriminate old RPGs from new RPGs XD i don't care if they have random battles or not i just want them to feel like an RPG

In all seriousness I accidentally read the thread as "What Title/Series Do you...." It wasn't until Mega said something that I actually noticed and after that I felt that it didn't need to be explained.

Really? Man I need to start playing this soon. It's one of my last few games that I own, but have never played.

Yeah man, the game rocks. A very story-based game. And it's a fantastic story.

My answer is pretty obvious. ::)
but for those of you who dont feel like thinking, it's KotOR xD
You're the smartest new user we've had in a long time. :D

Kotor did have a freaking awesome storyline (ignoring the last hour or so of Kotor 2 which made NO sense), but I honestly prefer Mass Effect's story. The presentation was just so much more cinematic.

I haven't played Mass Effect, but I definitely want to check it out.

You should definitely pick it up. It's a great game and the second one looks like it's gonna be even better.
I just blew a years worth of savings on a new laptop, and I'm currently having to pay for CIS classes I'm taking, and I don't have a job, so money is a bit tight around my place. Buuuuuuut I'll be seeing if any of my friends has a copy I can borrow. :D

A couple of features I like in a good RPG are random treasure chests on the world map and dungeons.Secondly, lots of side quests.Replay value is also important.

Godspeed.
