Well, rpgs are my favorite genre, while FPS is not. Halo is just that good that it makes my list despite being an FPS.
Tales of Symphonia seems a lot like FFX at first, actually.
You have Lloyd, who is very similar to Tidus.
Collette's storyline and personality at first are a lot like Yuna's.
Kratos is very similar to Auron, and actually sounds almost the same, although they have different voice actors.
The storyline is also a bit similar to FFX at first. But once you get about 15-18 hours into the game, it changes a LOT.
To me, what makes a game great is when it's the same everytime and you still enjoy it. I've played Golden Sun so many times without doing anything differently (like giving them different Djinn to create different classes) and just yesterday I was thinking about playing it again. Ocarina of Time is a lot more linear, but the bosses and dungeons are just so well designed that I could play that one over and over even though it really doesn't change each time you play it. I can see myself doing that with Tales, playing it more than once without doing anything differently from how I am playing it now. And then of course there's some extra stuff once you beat it, so then I could go through it and do it differently, too. Bonus stuff rocks!
I only counted games I've actually played. There's a lot of "great" rpgs I haven't had a chance to play yet, including the Chronos, Mana, and Suikoden series, so my top 5 will probably change over time once I play all of them.

I notice Suikoden II isn't on your All Time Top 5 - thus making it invalid.
