Tales of Symphonia unofficial hype thread!

I can't see Nintendo getting over their stubborness and letting Square Enix make a REAL RPG for the Gamecube. But it's a nice thought...a real Final Fantasy would look so right on the Cube.

I thought it was the other way around....Doesn't Sony have a deal with Square Enix in which the PS2 is the only system to get the true FFs? I always thought Nintendo would love another true FF if only Square Enix was able to make one for them.

That's what I thought. If it were the other way around, then someone made a stupid move at Nintendo. It's not like SquareEnix couldn't have made both CC and a true FF.....

I was thinking about getting CC, but I no longer have a GBA, so the most I could play is 1 player. Not much fun. If it had had both GBA and/or normal controller multiplayer, then that game would have probably been a good/better seller.

Today I picked up the Tales of Symphonia artbook that you get for pre-ordering Tales. It's really top-notch. The illustrations are just beautiful. I can't wait to play it!! Only a few more days.... :D

I picked up my copy yesterday and so far I really enjoy it. I played for a little over an hour. The story is ok so far; nothing special or terribly different from other rpgs, but still enjoyable. The battles are awesome, though, and the graphics...OMG. Soooo pretty! I have my AI party members set to semi-automatic, so occasionally during battles I have to access the menu to change how they are battling, but I actually think that's a cool feature. Some people complained about it, but it's pretty easy to understand and get used to, IMO. The voice-acting is great. I can't wait to get farther into it and see how everything progresses.

Overall, I'd say it's definitely worth getting and I'm happy with my purchase. :)

God lord, i've just found out when we (us Europeans) get this game...Q4 2004! >:( So that means October - December...maybe September. Although an interesting thing is that it also said that's when Legend of Zelda comes out...but that's off topic.

The last post I made was about 2 hours into the game. Now I'm about 4 hours into the game and man...it just keeps getting better! The voice-acting is great! I'm really growing fond of it. The battle system is getting even better now that my characters know more special moves. :D

This game is awesome. Namco so rocks! :woot

Good, because I'm getting it tomorrow, and I need something good to tide me over for the new Zelda, Metroid and Halo titles come out. Plus, I'm kinda bored, and a good RPG seems to be a perfect use of my time..... :D

isn't that only in Japan though?

I didn't think so in the us... but which is it, I'd like to know.

I am tired of games..etc.. not being exclusive... IMO that adds flavor to each system.

Tales is GC exclusive in the U.S. I don't know about Europe though.

It's coming out for the PS2 only in Japan. From the screenshots I've seen of the PS2 version, though, it's not as pretty as the GC version. I guess there's supposed to be added content in the PS2 version, like more skits and cutscenes or something. I hate when they do that.

I hate when they do that too. Why should the PS2 version get extra stuff?

Are any other games from the Tales series available or going to be available in the U.S.?

Tales of Eternia is coming out for the PSP.

Tales of Destiny 1 & 2 are available on the PSone. They are hard to find. Maybe BV has them or can find them, though.

If Tales of Symphonia for the GC does well, I'm sure Namco will consider putting more games from the series out on the Gamecube. And so far, it seems to be selling out everywhere. I'm really glad I pre-ordered!

A store in my area has it on sell for $40, but it's like 60 miles away. I was hoping a store in town that matches prices would get it in soon enough for me to get the discount price....

Totally not related to this particular forum, but I just have to say: I SO called it!

Explanation: On the official Tales of Symphonia board, there was a topic about who would have pre-ordered ToS if it didn't come with an artbook. A lot of people were saying that they didn't pre-order because they would probably be able to find it anyway. And I said that I've seen that backfire; my example was how no one pre-ordered Metal Slug 3 for XBOX and now that everyone has decided they would like to get Metal Slug 3, we don't get many in because there was no pre-order demand, and that that's the reason why I like to pre-order games, because then it shows that there IS a demand. Well one person said, "But that's a SNK Playmore game on the XBOX. This is a Namco game on the GC."

I'm so evil...I kind of want to go back and be like..."Ok, so who DIDN'T pre-order ToS? Were you still able to get it? No? Well....I told you so!" :D I say that because I already saw a lot of threads on there about how most stores are already sold out, and some of them didn't even get enough copies to cover pre-orders. :o

ToS for Gamecube could be a collector's item someday....that would be cool.

I hadn't even heard about it until I sae a short movie on a demo disc. That was like a week and a half ago. I'd of pre-ordered it if I had heard sooner.

Have you played it with more than one person yet, Mai?

Not yet. My friend wants to play as Presea and I haven't gotten to the part where Presea joins the party. So I'm still playing by myself.

I finally got my grubby little hands on a copy of it. I had to go to three or four different stores to find it. I have yet to play it though.

I played it for like six hours straight last night. I had to pull myself away to sleep, because I still wanted to play. The farther in you get, the better everything gets, including the voice-acting, character development, the battles, and the storyline.

If you happen to pick up the strategy guide, do yourself a favor and don't read the bestiary part - it spoils major parts of the game.

A funny thing happened at one point. I was playing, and all of a sudden I couldn't move my character. At first I thought it was because the game froze, but then I realized that my Wavebird's batteries had run out.  :lol So popped in some fresh ones and kept playing. But it was funny.

If you have any questions, let me know. I've figured out how to do multiplayer and how to switch characters and stuff. And how to ride Noishe around instead of walking.

Anyway, as I've been playing Tales, I've been thinking, and I have come to the decision that Tales is definitely one of my favorite games, ever. It makes #3 on the all time top 5 list, and #2 on the all-time favorite rpg list.

All Time Top 5
5. FFX
4. Halo
3. Tales of Symphonia
2. Golden Sun
1. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

All Time Top 5 RPGs
5. Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
4. Golden Sun: The Lost Age
3. FFX
2. Tales of Symphonia
1. Golden Sun

Every single game you listed there I have played and loved as if it were family. Tales of Symphonia was that good? Better than FFX and Halo? We shall see.
