amazing themes from Ys book I&II

I totally agree with Tales of Legendia. I still listen to that regularly.

I also love Final Fantasy VII and Crisis Core (mostly because I loved hearing the full orchestral or acoustic variations of the original songs.

Hey Addicts!

I guess for me,in a way you get to play God,and be in control of a particular character class of your choosing.
When you're "In Character" you can be any kind of person you wish. What I'm curious about is,why so much need to be completely different than who you are?Is it so bad on Earth, are we bored or so boring as real humans, that we must immerse ourselves into a fantasy world and person? What are we trying to escape?

Before any one says that that life sucks is not an excuse.

If not, then why are RPG'S so appealing?

God Bless,
Kaz

I guess it depends on the game. Most Japanese RPG's don't actually let your "role play" like what you described. Most of them put you in a certain role and you are not really given a choice. However if we are talking about a true role playing game such as Morrowind or Oblivion, then yes, getting to play god can be quite fun! Some of my favorite memories of Morrowind was getting a character so uber powerful that they could singlehandedly wipe towns/villages off the map. And I don't think people play RPG's because their lives are so bad they need to be somebody else lol. They are just fun to play. *shrugs*.

I love Oblivion... my custom class (Battlemage, mix of blade and magic powers) was so overpowered. I made custom spells that could literally kill entire rooms in one cast.

I don't believe that people like to play said RPG games because life sucks/. yes, it may be a good escape from stress, but what game isn't? And who doesn't want to take the time to immerse themselves in their own little fantasy world? I don't see myself, for example, being able to shoot lightning from my fingertips or summon a mini tornado to clean my room in real time.

For me, I find RPGs so appealing because of the story and how it unfolds. Kind of like reading a good book only you become a little more involved by actually controlling that main charcater within the story as it happens around you. It is the story and how it is told, how it pulls you in. I really don't know how to classify ICO. An RPG? I think so, that game is a masterpeace. No other game has caught my emotions and told a story so well. A classic is the Final Fantasy game with Cecil the Knight, I think it was FF 2 on the SNES. Chrono Trigger is another title that is just a joy to go back and play again to relive the story. But with an RPG, it is the same as with a book, that first time is the best. You just get involved with the characters and the story, like the Lunar series. A well told story that is fun to play equals addiction. Someone else's imagination has captivated yours and effected your world for those brief moments that you have spent in an RPG.

RPGs are role /playing/ games. For most games, you don't choose your character; he is created for you. You simply take the role of him, and go through a scripted plot. It's not really as you described.

Even if it were that way, though, escape from reality isn't all so bad every once in awhile. :p

I think that's FFIV.

Yea exactly! I love how RPG's involve a lot traveling and discovering new lands/towns and interacting with all the different characters. For me another draw to RPG's is that they typically have top notch soundtracks, so a lot of times I find myself enjoying a certain town, and or dungeon, just because of the great music.

I love a good soundtrack... ^_^

The "Battle System" means a lot for me.I can't tell you how much I hate the system used in "FF:Tactics"
