PS3...thoughts so far

True, which just helps to show how far they're willing to go to give us something new.

How can you be critical of the PS3 for that??? That's what almost EVERY console does (excluding the Wii and Nintendo because they are the ones who usually innovate). They upgrade the graphics, maybe change the controller and then throw in some new features. The PS3 will have Home, a bigger focus on online play, sixaxis (which is worthless) and a wireless controller. Consoles usually only change subtly so I really don't get why the PS3 should be criticized for that when Microsoft did almost the same thing with the 360.

Because it's the same, and there's no real reason to buy it for a long time then. Nintendo's the only good one now, because it changes. The DS and Wii are dominating the markets for a reason.

The technology makes it different. Do you think they could make something like Assassin's Creed on the PS2? The fact that the technology gets better ensures that developers will have more options with their games. Imagine if everyone from the 16-bit generation decided not to get a 32 (or 64) bit console because its "exactly the same" which it was in many respects. But compare the games on the N64 or PS1 to the previous-gen games. Because of new technology, devs now could make 3-D games. This is what often happens. The controls of a console stay the same, but new technology always developers to do more with their games and I think that makes it worthwhile to buy a nex-gen console.

EDIT: I'll respond to Jack's post too. Yes Home is similar to Wii features, but I was giving you features that changed from the PS2 to PS3 and Home wasn't available on the PS2.

I really don't though. Look at the PSP, perfect example. Sure it's newish, being a handheld PS2 and all, but does it have m/any good games? No. Compared to the DS, it's horible. Better graphics doesn't make it different.

Don't even talk about the PSP. That's such a crappy nex-gen system, it shouldn't even count. When a PSP does have a good game though, its vastly superior to most GBA games. The fact that it is more powerful allows the PSP to make superior games to the GBA (however rarely that may be).

Even if it doesn't always happen, nex-gen systems have the capabilities to create better games than the previous generation, usually because of better technology.

But look at the PS3. You think that powerful hardware will be used on a fleshed out story with great AI and gameplay, or is it gonna be used on graphics?

All three actually. You assuming they will only use the PS3 to improve graphics is just a random assumption from what you've seen for the 6 months the PS3 has been released. There are however, plenty of games coming out for the PS3 that appear to be improving gameplay and graphics.

A lot of games appear to be something they end up not being, you know.

Gameplay will ultimately be the deciding factor in the success of a game, or console. If the game looks nice, but lacks a good storyline, or is generally worthless in gameplay, it will never be successful.

The PS3 offers up the technology for a developer to make a great game as far as gameplay, but also gives them the ability to make it look outstanding. But has this happened yet? Not really. But I am betting that it will very soon.

Of course, but most games that truly look promising (I said most so please don't bring up Fable) end up being good or great games. Very few of them end up falling flat on their faces and I seriously doubt that will happen with every game that looks good that's coming for the PS3.

It's capable of it, but really, it seems the developers aren't.

And you are, again basing all of this off the few months the PS3 has been out for. That's not a very good point to start judging the games of the console, especially considering we're still in the post-launch drought.

EDIT: Ah crap. Sorry. I forgot I was the last person to post so I ended up double posting.

That's all you can base it off, because we don't know how games that are not out will turn out.

Well, yes, because you always judge everything, consciously or not.

I have the Wii, but I think it has been disappointing to me. The controls are not that great. Yeah, they are good for Wii Sports and Play, but other games they are just weak. I am going to get Mario Party 8 for the kids and hopefully the controls work for it. But playing Metal Slug and COD3 and so on, the controls have been horrible.
