Dude, Halo's story is pretty cliched. Humans expand into the galaxy, and encounter an alien race who wages war with them (Covenant). The alien race is completely crushing humanity, until you come along. You are some super soldier (Master Chief), who must stop the aliens from deploying some super weapon (ring world) that will destroy humanity.

Its not all that original.

Yeah, Star Wars wasn't. It was basically an epic like the Odyssey in space. Of course, everything they did with the space part was pretty original, because at the time there was never a movie like that.

Plus, just because the general ideas of a story have been done before doesn't automatically mean the story sucks.

Well there's some people who just hate Halo to hate Halo...I would suppose if you don't have a 360, such as Homi, then you would hate it. :)

I've had a 360 since last September.

Plus, right now, I'm not even hating it. I said the general ideas of the story have been done before. Hell, I even added in that just because its been done before doesn't mean its bad.

lol, I've been reluctant to post it up since my headset crapped out (can't figure out why...). I'm getting one the next time I can get down to Bestbuy or Gamestop, so I'll post it up then. :)

Well, to be fair, I didn't really bring this one up. People were already talking/arguing about it so I just thought I'd throw my opinion in...

EDIT: And for the record, I still plan on getting Halo 3. I liked the multiplayer from Halo 2, so I don't see why I wouldn't in Halo 3.

It's all good. The arguments against Halo are IMO baseless and getting old. I think that just because it's hyped so much and widely regarded as one of the greatest series in gaming history, it has a lot of people trying to be cool and go against the grain.

*sigh* Or they just have a different opinion. ::)

I don't like the single player, because I don't like the mindless, run 'n gun type shooter like Halo. Its my taste in games not me trying to be cool. ::)

I love everything about Halo.... I think the campaign mode was very good.....

That's also another thing...is every time someone disagrees..people say it's their opinion and do the rolly eye thing. Honestly, I was stating my opinion as well. Hence the "IMO" that was in my last post. But let's just leave it at that.

The single player is designed for run and gun, so if you don't like that type, then you won't like the game. Just because other games are run and gun, doesn't mean that Halo is just following the pack, or doing a bunch of stuff we've already seen before. It revolutionized online gaming for consoles. And also, to truly appreciate single player, you have to read the books.

Well, Cherry, when you boil it down and remove all the interesting things that sets Halo apart from other series, yes Halo's story is boring.

Ugh...I'm not getting into this one because I haven't read any of the books (don't really want to either), and I get the feeling reading them gives you a different perspective on the story, so I'm just gonna say, I didn't like the story, and we'll leave it at that. We've been down this path before, and it didn't get anywhere.

Need to throw in my two cents.

I didn't say halo's story was cliche at all. Amazing how homi threw out a great argument as to how it was.

I was saying that if master chief doesn't die at the end and sacrifices himself to save the planet or galaxy or whatever he is saving. THAT WOULD BE EXTREMELY CLICHE.

If you can't understand that last sentence, I'm sorry your brain cell count is lower than five.

Edit : If you all assume I hate halo to hate halo. I once liked (maybe even loved) halo until I realized that IMO It's a horrible game with a pretty boring story.

IMO IMO IMO...

then what do the masses want, something new? or something "cliche"?

That fans will be fine with a "cliche" ending, because personally, I haven't seen the main character of a franchise give up his life to save a planet, or have any kind of story remotely close to this. :)

@Alpha - In your opinion. Ok, I can respect that. In my opinion, it's the complete opposite, and we'll leave it at that. ;)

And for the record. Do you remember how many people were pissed because Halo 2's ending was utter crap?

If halo 3 has a cliche ending that would probably throw it into the utter crap category and everyone would be like "But the multiplayers good!"
