Ocarina of Time is still the best

TP is a fantastic game but OOT simply cannot be topped.

Did anyone else find the music in TP to be somewhat lacking? No orchestral aside, if you take OOT's absolutely stunning score by Kondo and then compare it with TP,  it just doesnt stand up.

I don't know what went wrong, it just sounds meh, a bit too cartoony. I think the sound quality is good enough, but still it could of been so much better.

In terms of storytelling, structure, progression, OOT still reigns supreme.

What made OOT so incredible with its story, was because it was like a children's fable come to life. It was about about Link growing up into adulthood and becoming a hero.

While TP has has great plot no less, the plot is more centered around Midna and her story and you're basically just doing what she tells you. There just seemed to be more at stake in OOT.

All in all I think TP is a huge step over OOT gameplay wise, but as for the story and mainly the overall presentation, OOT simply can't be beaten. What do you think?

graphically ocarina of time is not good. not good at all. legend of zelda, nes, entertainment, famican, whatever lol was better. why?

4 simple rules

1. more complex pixels
2. free continues
3. more challenge
4. more complex pixels again

so no ocarina of time is not even close to the majesty that has pravailed to the time of darkness. and no, mario party did not come off the idea of zelda. zelda comics are good though anyway. :hh

I agree with you sphyzex, though for different reasons it seems. :lol

I don't know if OOT will ever be dethroned for myself, so to even compare it to TP is to set it up for failure. I think the biggest reason as to why TP doesn't stand up to OOT was the way you opened up the world of Hyrule. In TP It constantly felt like you were being restricted, and everytime you'd come to a dead end you knew what item you needed to open the way, and I was always in a constant hurry to get those items. In OOT I always felt like every time I was about to get bored of exploring one area a new, bigger, one would open. My age could very well have impacted this, it may not even be the developer's fault, but whatever the reason, it just failed to meet my expectations.

That and the fact that nearly every element of TP has been done before, and in several cases done better, in other games. Riding Epona in TP feels rigid and arcade-y compared to Shadow of the Colussus, playing as the wolf feels like Okami except the visuals are less captivating, the boss battles don't really impress once you've played a game like RE4, the cutscenes pale in comparison to Final Fantasy... I dunno, TP brings a lot of interesting elements together and does them very well, but it definitely has a "been there done that" feel to it. Now had this game not been pushed back for years and had it come out around the time of Shadow of the Colossus and before Okami, then it would have been impressive. As it stands, it really doesn't bring anything new to the table. The sound and all that I found to be very fitting, I even like the MIDI style of music. It still sounds better than 64 MIDI's, and has a classic feel to it, so I found the sound in the game to be adequate. It was more the gameplay in it that I thought held it back.

That being said, I've still pumped about 17 hours into this game within 2 weeks of owning it, so it still is a good game, just not a great one, which Ocarina of Time was in every respect.

After playing TP for about ten hours Im starting to agree. Like Stealth said, the gameplay seems fairly linear. The boss battle, although fun, didn't impress me much either.

Im really digging the music. It has a resemblence to Super Mario 64 and Final Fantasy VII. Which I loved musically.

One thing I think we can all agree on. Zelda II was the worst. I tried to make myself like it on many occasions, looks like I never will.

No, the Zelda games that came out on the Phillips CD-I were the worst. They werent even made by Nintendo.

They werent pirated Nintendo let them have the right to make 3(?) Zelda games for it, and the Wand of Gamelon is considered one of the worst games of ALL TIME

My personal list of favorite Zelda games, from #1 being the best:

1. A Link to the Past
2. Twilight Princess
3. Ocarina of Time
4. Wind Waker
5. Majora's Mask

And this is what one of my good friends said about TP being better than OoT.

Ocarina of Time--Ah yes, the so called "Greatest Game of All Time." Personally, this game is not anywhere near as good as it is worked up to be. The main reason it is so highly regarded is because when it came out, it was so revolutionary, it took everybody by storm. When compared to other latter Zeldas, there is nothing unique or special about it. The only thing that makes it special is the fact that it was the first 3D game, and if Twilight Princess had been first (With Ocarina of Time graphics) and Ocarina of Time second (With Twilight Princess graphics), it would have been considered much better. This game is a standard that all 3D Zeldas should follow, but expand in certain areas on. I believe this is perfected simplicity, which is why it is not anywhere near the best, because simplicity is nothing special.

But that is part of the reason why I hold OOT in such esteem. No game before it was like it, and after playing it all other games seemed to pale in comparison. TP, while a more or less solid gameplay experience, didn't really push the limit at all. It was just another adventure game.

No Zelda game will ever be superior to Ocarina of Time to me (at least it's very unlikely). And my reason is the same as Stealth's, that at the time it was an experience I've never been through before. It's what I'm going through with the GTA series, also. I played GTA 3 (the first 3D Gta game) for hours on end, so that whenever a newer one came out, it was still enjoyable, but felt like something I've done before...only with bigger areas.

With that said, Twilight Princess is still a very enjoyable game. I'm still not past the Water Temple yet because I love exploring so much. I'm not completely happy with the motion sensor aspect of it - I feel that you just can't get the same accuracy and response as you can with button presses - but I chose the Wii for this game, so I've made my bed to lie in.

I think we can all at least agree it's an improvement over Wind Waker, yes? :D

Sorry for the double posting (I've gotten rusty), but I had to quote this. Those are all some very good points and pretty much the same reason I'll always love OoT more; especially the point about the story being better, it does feel like you're Midna's slave in TP. And god, do I ever hate Midna...Navi, where'd you go? :(

Only point I'm not so sure about is the score. I'm really digging some of the orchestra work in TP, especially in the Hyrule Field when it turns to night...lovely.

OOT will never be topped ever ever ever by any game in the history of ever.

Edit: cept for Fire Emblem ;D

Let's bring this back and get some fast, easy posts. TP had linear dungeons, dragging points in the story, empty areas, simplistic everything, lame bosses, you used the Small Key in the same room you got it in most times, and the ending was anticlimatic.
