And my answer is....

No. Older people should learn how to play different kinds of games.  :p

Nintendo already caters to EVERYONE.

I think people are over the kiddy issue.  I do not hear people even making the kiddy argument anymore... I simply never hear it.

people think that Nintendo doesn't have online, and is worse quality and less shooters.
ok... they don't have online, and have less shooters, but the quality is WAY higher.

I don't know..... I just think Nintendo has been #1 for a long time, and people want a change.  At least Nintendo is hanging on...... because they have been loyal to their fans and have not changed a lot as a company.  They still bring out what their loyal fans want.

Atari and Sega couldn't save that.  Some would argue on the Sega issue... but its true.

Just as Nintendo was #1 one day...... Sony is now... and Sony is destined to fall.

Companies cannot stay on top forever.

and.... you never know... the PSP could be Sony's undoing to let Microsoft and Nintendo go ahead.

Think about this.... Nintendo is the #2 software maker... pretty close to #1. That is next to EA.
The GBA outsells the PS2. The Cube.... can arguably outsell the Xbox in some areas.... but IMO they are neck and neck.... Nintendo is making money while Microsoft is losing. Nintendo (as a company) is selling well. The company is in the black and making money.

Nintendo should only change slightly to try to grab another chunk of market share. I don't mean change necessarily... but maybe add an addition to what they have. I think Nintendo should pursue Online... but at the same time, I think they are smart in holding out. Nintendo is a smart company..... that is very apparant.

It doesn't matter to me, as long as they do good games. I've found all of Nintendo's "kiddie" games to be some of the best out there. But you're right Mai, older people should learn how to play different games. Right now the games industry is too closed-minded.

i think i would have to agree with "the people" you guys are all talking about

the theme did me over with the gamecube and still makes me kinda mad.........Mario with a water gun

come on, guys! a freakin watergun! where are the peoples' favorite fireballs and racoon tails? that was enough for me........no more nintendo for a while

I think they were trying to get the point across that Mario is the man of all elements :)

only those most powerful can use all the elements to defeat :D
Mario has used fire, water, and link has used wind... + about everything else :lol

Its a great game..... I love Mario sunshine.... and it was/is a blast to play. Not as good as mario 64 IMO... but right up there.

but,a water gun, man.....he could have used wings or the racoon tail to fly.....or whatever.......but a water gun?

mario has never used anything that.....wimpy......ever.  even the enemies i disliked in that game... where are all the goombas and koopa troopas and all that? he had to clean up paint, left from his evil paint twin or whatever

thats just.......not right

I think they were going for something new in a Mario game. It was still a fun game though. The water pump added an element to the gameplay that was entertaining, I give it that. How come no 3D Mario game has had the fireballs? That would be awesome I bet.

I put maybe on the change thing, no particular reason. They have a stellar system with some great games, and if other gamers refuse to see that, it's their loss. Us fanboys will just have to keep supporting Nintendo until they come around. :D

I thought Mario Sushine was an entertaining game too. It's not like it was trying to be anything huge like Mario 64, it was just another game in the series that wanted to try something different.

I would definately like to see the return of the fire balls, though. I'm confident that Mario 128 will bring them back, though. :D

Trying not to get your hopes up, eh? :)
Good luck with that when they finally show screens of the new one, whenever that'll be.
I wish they'd make a 3D Mario game in which you could be Mario or Luigi, like the old ones.

I said a defiant "YES" to appealing to a more "mature" audience. In all honesty, when people see an "Everyone" rating they're thinking about little kids. I mean, when you go to a "General Audience" movie, chances are you're going because you're taking a younger sibling or child to it. Sure there's gonna be stuff you can enjoy too, but the main focus is a younger audience.

Nintendo has the younger audience. Younger kids do want to play the Mario Sunshine's and the WindWaker's and such, if Nintendo wants to expand their audience they need to start tapping into a more mature audience, like, 15+. If they don't, they risk losing their younger audience, because often times younger kids want to play the games, and see the movies, their older siblings are playing and watching.

Now that's not to say that Mario Sunshine and The WindWaker weren't great games. I played them, I enjoyed them, but I can't help but think how much cooler they would have been with maybe a Teen rating instead. I don't want to see mario killing people or see what Link and Zelda have been up to "off camera", but I'm definitely 100 times more excited for the new, darker Zelda than I was for the Wind Waker. Now if Nintendo had launched a game like this with the Cube, I guarantee they would have sold a ton more cubes than they did, and if they promised more games like this, they would have sold a ton more on top of that.

Really? I definitely want to see what Link and Zelda have been doing off camera.....probably playing Scrabble or something. :D

I think you're right though, Nintendo didn't launch the Cube very well. If a realistic Zelda had been a release title, I'd have bought my Cube straight off, not once the price dropped a bit.

Well, the thing with some E-rated games that I have noticed is that the gameplay is challenging enough to put off most kids from playing them, even though they are supposedly aimed at kids.

I remember when Wind Waker first came out and they had the demo on the Cube. I'd watch the kids play it in the store and not one of them could figure out how to get past the first door in the dungeon demo. Is it really that hard to figure out that you can pick up a stick that the bad guy drops, light it with a torch that's already lit, and then use it to light the two unlit torches to get a treasure chest which holds the key that you need to unlock the door?

The Yu-Gi-Oh GBA games are also rated E, but there's a lot of text and so much strategy that I really don't recommend it to anyone younger than about 8. Oh sure, they could probably play it, but they would be pretty unhappy when their deck, made up of cards they picked just because they look cool, gets creamed every time. I have to wonder if that's why used game stores always have so many copies. How many kids got the Yu-Gi-Oh GBA games because they liked the anime and then found out that the game was actually not that easy?

RPGs are usually either rated T or E, but not too many younger kids play those, either. Too much reading and not enough action. When I'm working, it's always people in their teens or adults who buy the rpgs, even the ones on the GBA.

Ya, but little kids have patience for the stupidest things. I mean, they can entertain themselves for hours by running around the house screaming, even if they're not accomplishing major goals in videogames they have fun just running around, or sailing around, as the case may vary.

Yep, definately. When I used to have my Gamecube downstairs, these kids that my mum would look after (she's a childminder) who were about 7 and below would love playing Mario Sunshine for ages even though they were getting nowhere.

I know a little kid who will play Ninja Gaiden for about 5 minutes, run into some enemies, get killed, and repeat. For like 2 hours. It nearly drove me nuts.
