Goodbye 40GB! Hello 80GB! (No BC in this model!)

Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.
And, out of nowhere, Tretton announces Sony will introduce a new 80GB PS3 in September for just $399.99. He says the console will "have the same functionality as the 40GB PS3," perhaps hinting it may not have backward compatibility. No word on what's happening to the 40GB model.

[UPDATE] After the conference, SCEA senior vice president of marketing Peter Dille confirmed the 40GB PS3 is being discontinued, and the new 80GB PS3 will not have backwards compatibility

Nope, just the same ol' stuff as the 40GB model. Yet every PS3 comes with a DualShock 3 controller now.

Well that isn't really anything I need then, I already have a 40 gig PS3 and a Dualshock 3 controller so it would be easier for me just to buy a 40 gig external Hard Drive then to buy a new almost exactly the same PS3 just for 40 gigs. Its awesome for new people getting the PS3 though.

Well they just stopped making it backward compatible cause they wanted to make even more money from selling PS2 consoles. Smart business move even if it does cost gamers money.

sometimes companies will do things that piss us off but in the end they have to eat as well (but i still hate it XD i feel bad for those who were planning to sell their ps2 to get a ps3)

Yeah i hear ya, I still have my PS2 but it hasn't been on in over a year. I have been thinking of turning it on and getting that game Ico to play once and to play MGS3 all over again just cause I love it. Playing the PS2 is like playing the nintendo 64 now. Brings back some awesome memories.

The only one that does, is the current MGS4 Bundle edition that was released June 12th. It's BC

I know this is going to sound dumb but what is BC? I should of known about that MGS bundle, can't believe i forgot about that.
 
I agree. I want a solar-powered hot dog cooker with my PS3. And a built-in LCD screen that can fold out. Oh oh, and a sofa. If a PS3 can do that, AND mix me a drink, I'll buy another one.
