World of Warcraft's parody song "I AM MURLOC" will arrive tommorrow on GH3. I believe it will be FREE.
When the Activision/Blizzard merger news first broke last December, the Internet was ablaze with tongue-in-cheek calls for combinations of each company's flagship franchises. Blizzard itself poked fun at the situation with its guitar-wielding "Bard Hero Class" April Fools Joke (pictured), but come Thursday, the jokes will transform into an unexpected reality.
No, Guitar Hero will not be implemented into World of Warcraft; rather, "I Am Murloc," a thrash-metal song by Blizzard's in-house band, Level 70 Elite Tauren Chieftan, will be released as free downloadable content for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. According to Activision, the song is a "tongue-in-cheek tribute to the beloved race of fish-people" from the MMORPG.
The song will be available on Thursday, June 26, and is timed to be released in conjunction with the 2008 Blizzard Entertainment Worldwide Invitational being held in Paris on June 28-29. Thursday's release is ostensibly the fourth of five promised DLC updates to be released for Guitar Hero III in June, though considering the usual Thursday release schedule, it appears unlikely that the fifth will make it out by the end of the month.
"I Am Murloc" is not the first time another franchise has crossed over with Guitar Hero III via the release of a downloadable song. Last November, Microsoft's popular Halo theme was released to the Xbox Live Marketplace as a complementary download, while just last month, Sony's God of War II served as the inspiration for an exclusive free PlayStation 3 track.
