You heard me. Warhammer 40,000: Winter Assault is out. Go buy it. And Dawn of War if you need to. You will love it.

On a serious note, this game rocks. I'll post more later, kinda tired right now :z

That's right you are! It's what the Emperor would want!

Right now, actually, I'm getting ready to play it. But I'll post some info real quick.

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS (MINOR)*

It adds SO MUCH! Loads of (good) changes too. Let's see...

Adds a 5th race- The Imperial Guard
-Totally unique tech tree (nothing from other races)
-Defensive race (they have to be, they can win early game or late game, in between is hopeless)
Adds units to existing races
-Space Marine Chaplain (Imagine a Force Commander and a Chaplain combined. Yeah, he rocks. Cannot be attached to squads ;( )
-Orkz Mega Armored Nobz (Easily the best Ork infantry unit, and probablly one of the best units in the game)
-Chaos Khorne Berzerkers (The coolest unit in the game, period. They pretty much suicide charge the enemy, except they don't die in the process :P)
-Eldar Fire Dragon (Never seen one used, supposed to be effective anti-vehicle and anti-building)

They also added some new options, like Persistent Bodies. See the Creative Section for my example of it. :p

They made loads of minor adjustments to HP, Morale, Build Times, Offensive/Defensive capabilities, and balance is general. If anyone is interested in playing some of this online, PM me or leave your account name on here.

Dawn of war. Isnt it a bit more combat focused than other rts'?

I would say yes. It is not a game where you can "turtle" (mass defense and expect to win). Turtles die faster than normal players. Good strategy and tactics are VERY important. I have taken the second weakest combat unit in the game and leveled bases with it, just by virtue of strategy. Base building is only for two things, Requisition/Power (resources) and tech. Even then, what you build depends on your style. If your strategy doesn't incorporate Unit X, then you won't have to get any tech for Unit X.

In a nutshell, yes combat plays a larger role in this game.

Gamespot only gave it an 8.3

Do you think it is better?

Personally, it is all about preference. I like the game because it is different, it is fun, and the detail is GREAT as opposed to other RTS games. I would rate it a 9.4 personally.

What I would recommend doing is splitting the cost of Dawn of War with a friend and each of you buy Winter Assault. It saves some money, since you only need DoW installed on your computer to use WA.

Or you could get Dawn of War: Gold Edition. That's the normal Dow plus Winter Assault for the price of one.
