Ugh, Xbox Live is the Worst Gaming Community.

Well, I just got off playing an hour of Call of Duty 4 (there was some problem with XBL, that stopped everyone from getting into a game), and I'm now convinced (didn't take much convincing) that XBL is the worst gaming community ever.

I went into one game, about three five year olds who wouldn't shut up, and think cursing somehow makes them grown up. Needless to say I decided to leave that game.

The next game I go into starts off fine. Then, some ***hole, out of the blue, comes in and calls everyone gay because we didn't know the answer to some question he asked. This causes a huge argument, which basically consists of everyone screaming, and calling everyone else a bunch of insults I can't say on here, or I'll get banned. This went on through the entire dam match. I was going crazy by the end of it. Then, thank god, XBL crashed. I can't believe I'm paying $50 a year for the this. >_>

Anyone else have any XBL horror stories, or is it just me who gets stuck with all these people?

I actually love Xbox live....with the exception of a few annoying people, who can be easily muted, I enjoy playing on there. I like all the stats and friend network and what-not that they have, including checking who is online at xboxlive.com so I dont have to turn on my xbox to look and see whether to play or not, judging by who's online.

It's the power of anonymity. It's not that they feel grown up but they know that they won't get punished much for it. It's how the internet is unfortunately. At least here or other message boards, you have moderators upholding the rules. In XBL there are no such rules against cursing. It will happen in PS3's and the Wii's online community as well, just not as much as XBL since they are not as established.

The most you can do is not play with a headset and mute everyone unless you know them.

But you can get that with other online communities as well. Stats and friends networks are not exclusive.

the only online gaming communities that are decent are PSN, Steam, Blizzards, and here :D.
If u were to play XBL on other country based servers you won't get the same experience then you would on the ones in NA.

None of which I have played, except Starcraft.... And I have played some Command and Conquer games with so-so networking...nothing like xbox live though.

I came from a system with absolutely no friend network, one online game, and $9.95 a month. That was Phantasy Star Online with the Gamecube. Thats nothing compared to $50 bucks a year for tons of games, and at the time, the Playstation had no networking either. I know that Halo PC didn't really have a good network, either.

Steam is a bunch of games in one community. All you need to do is pay and download the games online. They have all of Valves stuff (Half Life and Counter Strike), Eidos stuff, ID Software stuff (Doom and Quake), Call of Duty is on it, and they keep getting new stuff weekly. Steam is the PC equivalent to 360's XBL just better customer support and is free. As for PSO on Gamecube that doesnt compare to the old days on Dreamcast.

cherry, for christ's sake, every online network has idiots on it, for crying out loud this is just trying to take a dig at microsoft

That makes sense then. I've been playing online since the Sega Network on the Dreamcast. Those were the days. :'(

Yeah I've got horror stories. Try being a girl on XBL and playing Halo 3. :lol

But at least you can mute idiots, and then after the match is over, avoid the player. That's what I do to keep myself sane.

I've only actually reported like four people, and probably three of them were just for offensive GamerTags. Only one of them was what I felt was harrassment.

Word of advice, never cuss at children, it only excites them like spider monkies. It's like giving candy to a hyperactive 5 year old.

I've only reported two people, both were for harassment/threats, not because I'm a girl though. He challenged me 1on1 after a match and I whooped his butt... God.... Fricking psycos...

That's not XBL's fault. XBL is an extremely popular service, and as such there are good /and/ bad people. Feature-wise, Live is the best multiplayer service out there. The best you can do is submit a player review on them, marking for bad language or disruption... then you won't be matched up with them as often. All other online games have their trolls, too.

That's arguable...

Only by sheer opinion/taste, and possibly the fact that you have to pay for it. Other than that, its features far outweigh that of any online-based multiplayer service.

...I did say their community was the worst, not the service itself.

You took my post out of context. I was not saying you thought the service was bad. The context of that statement was to reassure you that XBL is a great service, and that they are not to blame for "bad seeds" in the community; nay, the community itself. They added a system to prevent playing with people you dislike/mute them, as well as a way to report cheating, but that's about as good as they can do really. It's just the demographic of people who play XBL sadly includes aforementioned bad seeds.
