PS3 Study

According to data collected by The Diffusion Group, there's one area of the console wars in which the PS3 has a notable lead: The percentage of users online in the U.S. According to the numbers posted by Gamasutra, 78 percent of PS3 owners have taken their consoles online, compared to 73 percent of Xbox 360 owners.

By comparison, only 54 percent of Wiis have been connected to the internet.

Wow, maybe it's because Sony advertising their online features in each commercial could be the cause?
 
What constitutes "going online?"

Does it mean just accessing online features through their respective dashboards and menus? Or do you actually have to play a game online?

It's cuz it's free. Speaking from experience, I never played my 360 online because I didn't want to pay for Live. I don't know if I ever connected it to the internet until the new dashboard came out, and then I got the E74 error...

After I got my PS3 I've spent more time playing online than I have playing offline. And I don't just mean "connected to the internet," I mean playing Uncharted 2's online multi, MW2 online, NHL 09 online, etc. because it doesn't cost any extra.

But as Creeping pointed out, I would like to know what "taking a console online" really means. The last statistic I heard on 360's and the percentage of systems that had Live accounts attached to them was around 50%, so they may not be talking about people playing online so much as just having their console connected to the internet.
