It was released this week and needless to say, please for the love of God. Play this game. It's a remake of the Japanese SNES classic that started it all.

I'm a little late to the party but I'm interested nonetheless.

But can someone tell me the chronology of the Star Ocean series?

I think this First Departure comes first right? Where does the Star Ocean: Till the End of Time fit in? and where does the 360 version go?

I'd like to get into this series but I'm a little confused as to where to start.
 
Star Ocean: First Departure is the First
Star Ocean: Second Departure is second
Star Ocean Blue Sphere is third (released only in Japan, direct sequel to the Second Departure)
Star Ocean: Till the End of Time is fourth

Star Ocean 4 seems separate

But in America
It would be
Star Ocean: First Departure is 1st
Star Ocean: Second Departure is 2nd
Star Ocean: Til the End of Time is 3rd

Star Ocean 4 seems separate

Ultimately if youre like me and new to the series then start with First Departure
 
Ah I failed to mention that I did just manage to pick this, Star Ocean First Departure, up this past Saturday. I have yet to start it yet because of final exams but I am hoping that I begin playing it, or Crisis Core, this weekend. I dont know which to play first though.
 
I picked up this game and have started playing it. So far, I like it. I can see where Star Ocean and Tales are pretty similar.

I just miss having hit combos counted. :D
 
Yeah the combo system could have counted them. Have you been boosting up your skills and such and seeing what each combination leads too? Thats my favorite part. Cooking is fun too.
