This is a rather odd topic that my friends and I were talking about last night. We were talking about how boring the beginnings of most RPGs are. Well, we decided that FFVII had a great and action-packed beginning. We couldn't think of many other RPGs that were the same. I would love to see more games dive into the action and bring the story along with it, rather than start off with explaining the whole story and you just go from there. I do understand the reasons why some games have done this though. Anyways, my question to you is, what are some of the best beginnings to an RPG that you've seen?
 
That's a very good point...This ps1 rpg called Vagrant Story starts off very fast and throws you into battle about 2 minutes in. The slowest starting rpg I've played is Dragon Warrior 7, the first battle takes place 3 hours into the game, seriously.
 
Final Fantasy VIII has the best openning in my opening in my opinion. I love it to peices, I love the sword fight between Seifer and Squall and the music, it makes me squeal in happiness everytime I see it <3
 
Mine would have to be Parasite Eve. Just a lil story and them boom before you know it all hell breaks loose. :D
 
I caught that too creepin :lol

The only one I think I've seen that is really good is FFVII...I'll have to think if I know more.
 
That was one game that didn't reveal the whole story in the beginning and was also interactive in the beginning. I for one liked it. This is all just opinionated though.

hey we all make mistakes, I just make more than all of you put together. If Jesus killed a kitten everytime I made a typo, there would be NO chinese food. Ever. Again. For the rest of eternity.

Oh and if FFVIII is the best, both of the KH games come in close second....I think I'm just in love with the theme songs though. xD

Kotor, KH, KH2, WoW, oddly enough (if you want to call that an RPG), I think Oblivion's was decent, Morrowind's was lame, Chronotrigger's was awesome.
