And they aren't mind blowing.

Gamespot says

The Good: A faithful translation of Capcom's original survival horror classic; features two playable characters plus two distinctly different single-player modes; some excellent sound and music, plus voice acting that's so bad it's funny; creative minigames make use of the touch screen and microphone.

The Bad: Visuals look grainy and washed out; controls are clunky and can take getting used to; cheesy video and dialogue don't really fit with the game's serious theme.

Overall, I would say not that bad for what they were trying to go for. IMO, the DS can't (at least yet) really pull off the visuals of the console RE's.

This is one of the games where I dont really care about the reviews because I mostly already know how the game is going to play. Honestly I thought it would be worse than a 72%.

I expected worse than a 72% also. I think part of the factor was just, it is Resident Evil, easily one of the most successful series in all of video gaming. And the fact it is the first real portable RE game probablly redeemed it some. Personally, though this is partially because I have a PSP, I would like to see a PSP RE game. Port or new one, either way I think the PSP (which is often said to be somewhere above the PS1 but below the PS2 in power) could do more justice for RE.

yes, it's a good thing...*waves his arms around like a Penguin* you didn't see NOTHING at all.... :lol

haha :lol

Do you guys think maybe the expectations were too high, and that's why it got such low reviews? I haven't played the game, but it might be one reason.

It got low reviews because it's a ten year old game. There are virtually no graphic improvements. Just a few extras. This game is mostly aimed at the RE hardcore fanbase. Now if it was a direct port from the GC RE, then it would have gotten a better score. But the DS can't handle those kinds of graphics.

Okay now I'm at control...this review is bull hockey!

Resident Evil DS is beautiful!

Visuals look grainy and washed out <--- that's a lie, textures are smooth for a DS

controls are clunky and can take getting used to <-- true and false, the fact is, the D-pad is a bit too sensitive, but not clunky, it's very faithful

cheesy video and dialogue don't really fit with the game's serious theme <--- DUH! That's a load of caca! This game was MEANT to be a Cheesy B movie! that's the beauty of it!

IGN, you can cram it! As a loyal RE fan, I'm very pleased with this port!

Rebirth mode will trip you OUT! TONS of monsters now!! Way more then even the Director's Cut on PS1!  :o

I love the look of the zombies now! They move like it was a real movie! Sluggish foot draggin, the staggering, it's crisp! Someone said the animation was stiff? BULL HOCKEY again! like I said, these characters are more animated then ever before! The Hunters are still a force to be reckon with!

My top score....85% (Same game, but some new bells and whistles to have you coming back, plus this is PORTABLE! What more can you ask for?_

Love or hate it, this is Resident Evil finally perfected in a handheld at last! Another treat is some rooms in the game have brand new remixed BGM! Rebirth mode will give those veteran RE players (like myself) a run for your money! Insane challenge there! How insane you may ask? CROWS ARE EVERYWHERE! ::D

I'm being honest, not objective. IGN are some stupid snotty punks who got hired because they couldn't get a REAL job like a REAL man! They probably cry when a NAIL or PEN breaks! They wouldn't know what a 2D fighter looked like unless it had jiggling honkers like DOA for godsakes!

:o Don't get in GnG's way...haha :lol

My experience is that the controls *are* clunky and the graphics *are* grainy and washed out. It's hard to see at points with the annoying camera thing...and I really hate that on a portable game there's no way to save easily. In fact, I forgot to at all after i was about an hour into it and died...and...that really pissed me off. :) I like the rebirth mode though. The cool little touch mini games are really amusing.

The camera angles have been the problem with RE since 96' so that's understandable.

I honestly never felt the graphics were grainy

Controls do take a while to get used to, like I said earlier, the D-pad is sensitive it seems
