Nintendo DS Should I bother?

Every time I buy a handheld I get tired of it extremely quickly. I've had every single handheld at one point in time or another and they've all just lost their luster fast. The GBA lasted almost 6 months before I got rid of it. I guess what I'm asking is there enough games to keep a 25 y/o with video game A.D.D. occupied? I like the idea of getting online with mario kart but other than that i've heard or seen nothing that'd merit me wasting money on another hand held.

I've done some looking around since I posted last and saw a couple of games I'd like to play, metroid being one of them. BTW does the DS have a video out on it?

Well.. so far I have 19 games for it :)

If you decide to get one... drop me a line, I could hook you up with a small deal if you ordered some games with the system.

I'd say get it... it's a pretty cool system. I am going through a console drought period where I don't want to play consoles at all... and this handheld is taking a lot of my time. That, and the WiFi games are pretty cool. You gotta get tetris :lol

No, it doesn't have a video out, sadly. I wanna make some movies, too. I'll just record with a camera, heh.

Anyway, yeah Metroid is amazing, as is Animal Crossing. I don't think it's the system that bores people, it's the lack of games. GBA went through cycles, it had a period of AMAZING games on the market then it went through a dry spell with terrible games all around, even from Nintendo (DK:king of swing anyone?). DS is pretty big right now and already has some /addicting/ games, I'd go with it... why not.

Wow, that's a cool feature :p BV posted.

Well, there is a modded DS you can buy out there, but it's hard to find... stores don't sell it :p You gotta just have one happen upon you, I can't find one for sale anywhere.

It's called a DS Nitro Capture Box.

^The blue thing and the DS being the unit, they're connected. The light's just there because the owner's playing Boktai with it :p

That is only supposed to be for Nintendo and certain few companies who can purchase one for reviewing games and capturing pictures to put online. It's extremely expensive. We have one at my job. I haven't been able to play with it though.

As for the original question, seeing the track record you have with handhelds, I say don't get one. BUT if you do decide to get the DS, I say wait till the DS Lite's come out. They are smaller and have better screens. Meaning they are much brighter and crisper and the buttons feel a little better also.

Exactly how much does it cost, creepin? Can you use other handhelds with it?

Nah, it's specifically built in to the DS. The PSP and other handhelds have their own machines. From what I heard they are around $4K. Not positive though. Ill get a better number for you guys.

As for where I work, at the moment I work at THQ.

I think the cool thing about the DS is that there are a lot of quirky games that don't require you to commit a lot of time. Especially games like Animal Crossing, Wario Ware and Brain Training. You don't even have to put 5 minutes into them and you can still have fun with it. Or least, I do.

Yes, you definetly should bother.

There's plenty of good games for it, more than the PSP.

And, it's $100/$200AUS cheaper! Huzzah!

Animal crossing? Really? What can you get done or have fun with in less than five minutes in that game? When I play the game it's hard for me to stop playing it. Not to mention that there is quite a bit to do.

Ok so i got it and so far only have two complaints about it.

1. the buttons are tiny
2. My router happens to be one that the DS is not compatable with.

Other than that the button layout felt akward at first but I got used to it quick, just wish the buttons were bigger! The two games i've got are awesome!

Well that might have been an exaggeration for Animal Crossing. :lol But sometimes I'll just fish for like 10 minutes or something.

The only negative for me is the lack of an analoug stick, but they seem to find their way around that. Great handheld.

I am one that's glad to see the DS without the analog stick. I played by brother-in-law's PSP and I thought the stick was horrible.

That doesn't mean Nintendo's analog stick would have been the same. The Neo Geo pocket color has a great stick, even though it's not analog. I think that's how an analog for a handheld should be. It's one of the things I kind of wish the DS would have.
