Does anyone know if Square-Enix will be creating a new "Star Ocean" for the "PS3"? :woot
Square's a big company. They have the capacity to work on more than one game, at the same time.fhqwhgads said:They're having enough problems with FFXIII, so let's wait 'til they get the engine down.
Of course, but if they can't even get their game engine functioning, lotta good working on a game would be.Homicidal Cherry53 said:Square's a big company. They have the capacity to work on more than one game, at the same time.![]()
And who said they can't get it functioning? (substantial, confirmed link, please, not just hearsay)fhqwhgads said:Of course, but if they can't even get their game engine functioning, lotta good working on a game would be.
They're having problems finishing it, it's hard to make a custom engine for the beast that is the PS3. That's the whole reason we're not getting FFXIII anytime soon.Homicidal Cherry53 said:And who said they can't get it functioning? (substantial, confirmed link, please, not just hearsay)
I still haven't seen a link confirming that.fhqwhgads said:They're having problems finishing it, it's hard to make a custom engine for the beast that is the PS3. That's the whole reason we're not getting FFXIII anytime soon.
And I haven't seen a link with a solid release date.Homicidal Cherry53 said:Plus, it's expected in Japan in late '08. They wouldn't be able to release it then, if they were still building their game engine, as you suggest.
Mass Effect didn't get a final release date till three months before it was out.fhqwhgads said:And I haven't seen a link with a solid release date.
Ok. And? That doesn't change that FFXIII has no real release date.Homicidal Cherry53 said:Mass Effect didn't get a final release date till three months before it was out.
I'm just saying there's plenty of time for a release date.fhqwhgads said:Ok. And? That doesn't change that FFXIII has no real release date.

Strubes said:But to answer Mr.Kaz's question...no Star Ocean games are confirmed for the PS3 at this time. There are, however, two Star Ocean games being developed for the PSP.

This week's Famitsu publication has revealed some new information on Star Ocean 4. The story of the game -- featuring hero Edge Maverick and heroine Reimi Saionji, who were revealed at last year's Tokyo Game Show -- takes place before the time period of the previous Star Ocean titles. Series creator Yoshiharu Gotanda spoke about this:
"Actually Star Ocean 4 was originally meant to be titled Star Ocean 0, but we were told that it wouldn't sell so we had to go with SO4. Story-wise it is basically a prequel since the story and setting of Star Ocean concluded with SO3. There is one thing we haven't done, which is what this title is."
The theme of Star Ocean 4 is space exploration and first contact. According to producer Yasunori Yamagishi, there will be six to seven planets to explore and about the same number of party members as Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (which would mean around 10). The battle system will remain unchanged for the most part, but new gameplay elements will also be placed into the current system. Other features such as Private Action, Item Creation and collect-a-thons (like Voices in Star Ocean: The 2nd Story and Battles in Till the End of Time) will also be present.
Unfortunately, the platform for Star Ocean 4 still remains a closely guarded secret. As for the release date, Yamagishi is tight lipped about it: "We can't disclose the release date yet, but so far development is going according to schedule."

trkorecky said:You mean the absolute atrocity that is the Cell? The PS3 is about as easy to develop for as catching and stopping a .50 cal sniper shot with your teeth.
Yes...yes, we all realized that, Hines.Hinesmdc said:Which is literally impossible! Ohhhhh what now Sony what now.
