MGS4 Too Big for Blu-Ray Disc

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/02/kojima-mgs4-too-big-for-50-gb-blu-ray-disc/

It's not much of a shocker to learn the latest (and final) installment in the Metal Gear Solid series is a sizable one -- MGS games have a history of being big (and beautiful). However, a recent interview with series creator Hideo Kojima revealed a startling fact about MGS4 -- Kojima complained that a few features had to be cut from the game so it would fit on a Blu-ray disc. As format fanatics already know, that means the game takes up nearly 50 gigabytes of space.

If true, this is bad news for anyone who hoped to see anthropomorphic cow-bots on the 360 (unless that data was divided between about five dual-layer DVDs), but it could also mean a painfully long installation time for PS3 owners as well. We can only imagine that 49 of those gigabytes are taken up by thousands of variations on just three lines of dialogue -- "Snake? SNAKE? SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!?"

Wow..that's insane. Any hopes of it ending up on the 360 are running dry, unless they put it on five discs. :lol

Personally I never really mind multiple disc games. I'd rather have that than an incomplete game.

This is the last MGS, don't skimp out on it just because it doesn't fit on one disc. >:(

I highly doubt this. The last 2 main games were also supposedly "the final chapter of the MGS saga".

Really? MGS2? Where's the proof? I'm just a little skeptical, but I can see how it might have happened.

At the end of MGS2:Sons of Liberty Hideo Kojima wanted to work on other projects besides the Metal Gear franchise and has expressed publicly that when MGS2 came out that it would be the last endeavor into the Metal Gear franchise. Fortunately, Kojima went and made Kojima Productions and that's how MGS3 came around. Saying Kojima is gunna leave this franchise would like saying a fat kid won't leave cookies alone, it ain't gunna happen.

It is going to happen.

Metal Gear won't be done but MG: Solid will be.

Uh, no. An inside source already said that it will be showing up on the 360 about a year after it shows up on the PS3. They already knew the size of the game at that point, so they weren't just making it up.

Uh, yes. Ok, so you're saying there's going to be a 5 disc MGS4 game? And where's this inside source?

Hideo wasn't going to do a MGS4, he only did it after death threats and stuff.

Heh, apparently there's some extremely incompetent people working on this game, or they really do feel the need to waste gigabytes upon gigabytes for random music and movie files. Textures and graphics don't take up much space, and you could fit most of the game's code in your wristwatch.

Yeah, this news was seen by a lot of people in the industry as a bit of a PR stunt. It's more evidence of shoddy compression than of a rich and lengthy game.

Even if it does come out on 360 (probably will eventually in some form or another) it won't be on it for awhile, and there won't be any Metal Gear themed 360's! (this may be a good thing, there's enough 360 skus as is).
