I used to be a fan when I was smaller because I didn't know it was fake. These days,I find it far less
entertaining because of the fact.No offense to wrestling fans in the forum, but how can you possibly enjoy what you are watching when you know it isn't real?

I love watching UFC fights because I know it's real.Wrestling fans, please don't get me wrong, wrestling can be very entertaining, but the fact that it's fake will always be in the back of my head, which ruins the fun.

Now i am not a Wrestling fan nor do i think i'll ever be but if i may....

even though i know the story of metal gear solid is not real i still enjoy it, even though all those sci-fi shows are not real i still enjoy them. So if we think about Wrestling as a show instead of a sport like boxing then it would make sense to me why people love it.

but i might be totally wrong and people might enjoy wrestling for totally different reasons unkown to me XD

I enjoyed the movies Aliens, Terminator 2, and Avatar because they were based on true stories.

[/sarcasm]

What does being real have to do with enjoying something?

Wrestling is too predictable. The matches and their results are predetermined. When it comes to UFC or Boxing, and martial arts. You know it's real, which has a tremendous impact on the entire fight, and the fan watching.Personally, when I watch a sporting event I prefer that it is real.Makes it much more enjoyable.

Wrestling is a show. Mixed Martial Arts is a sport. You can't compare the two. It's like comparing Desperate Housewives to the Super Bowl. Obviously, one isn't real, but people can enjoy both.

I enjoy wrestling for the funny gifs :p

Kaz I'm a fan of pro wrestling but I don't think of the show as a sporting event more of sports themed drama.

Well,They must be doing something right I guess.Pro Wrestling still rakes in loads of scratch.

It's really refreshing to hear people say "what does it being 'real' have to do with enjoying it." It really bothers me when people say they don't like sci-fi or fantasy movies/books because they're too 'unrealistic.' Especially if they enjoy "reality TV shows" or Dramas and such. People tend to forget that "realism" is a style, like abstract, like noire, like new wave, and so forth. Anytime something appears real that is only because it is artificially engineered to show you what you expect to see, which is often not the case in actual reality where many things we do not expect surprise us.

C.S. Lewis argued that all forms of "realism" in art (not just paintings and plays, but movies and TV shows as well) were in fact less realistic than those forms of art that had no interest in portraying something realistically, because "realistic" art pretended to be exactly what it could never be: actual reality.

I would go so far as to say that "real sports" are in fact less realistic than pro wrestling because they pretend to be unbiased, unrehearsed, portrayals of fair and even competition, but everyone knows it is most often what takes place off the field (training, personal life, politics) that determines the outcome. Wrestling is at least up front about this fact, while "real" sports pretend this is not the case.

Not that it matters either way. :D

Well wrestling has been part of my of childhood tv routine, maybe because it is the only thing that is unchanging in the world of television hehe.

I should've known there was a plethora of wrestling fans in this forum. :lol
