Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.
European laws are pretty strict I've heard, thanks to Germany. Many popular games we know well here, have been censored or renamed because of harsh laws against violence in video games back in the 1980's and early 1990's.
Prime example is many famous KONAMI classics such as: Contra, CastleVania, and TMNT.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on NES is a good start. The game was released in Europe and the series cannot have the word "NINJA" in it, since it points to violence apparently. So Europe ends up with:
Teenage Mutant HERO Turtles. Epic fail.
Now the Contra series was by far the most butchered, by replacing everything with ROBOTS instead of humans dying and renaming the entire game series to "PROBOTECTOR".
Teeny weeny robots. That honestly look rockin', but sad to see the hardcore-Rambo lookin' dudes removed.
CastleVania however, censored all over the place. The Blood, any statues that had nudity in them was covered up asap. Anything barring religion symbols was cut. To the point, even the title screens are butched.
CastleVania Dracula X on Super NES
Oh, no there's blood on the title screen! Better remove it!
Instead, Europe was treated to a "Darkstalkers" font and a cuter/adorable name with no blood or violence. ^_^
CastleVania: Vampire's Kiss! yay!
Now for the epic funny, is my favorite. CastleVania BLOODLINES on the Sega Genesis. Now the title screen has a pool of blood and it's dripping with blood. I bet European game rating system had a field day with this one.
CastleVania Bloodlines
Remove the blood, replace it with cold water, and add the silliest subtitle ever. What are you left with?
Europe: CastleVania: The New Generation.
Apparently someone over at Konami of Europe was a Star Trek fan.
