Do you think Nintendo fans are too passionate?

On IGN the other day there was a discussion about how Nintendo's problem is that its fans are too passionate. They've made so many great games over the years that N fans expect consistently good games.

As kind of a point, there were a LOT of Zelda fans at E3 who actually cried during the press conference when they surprised everyone with footage from the new game. Are there ANY games on competiting consoles that could have that effect? If so, which ones, and why? If not, why do you think that is?

Only one that could possibly have that affect I can think of is Halo 2 for Xbox, but the fans of that game I doubt would cry....just cheer very loudly.

there would be no hope for halo fans..........after they were through, you probably needed some new windows because the noise cracked some of them

Do you think people will still play Halo franchise games in 20 years, though, like Zelda? ;) I mean, the only franchises that have been around as long as Zelda are Mario, Final Fantasy, Donkey Kong, and Pacman, I think. Could be wrong about that.

What I think is that many Zelda fans were so unhappy with the cel-shading that of course they would cry to see a realistic game. Other games, like Halo 2 and FFXII, we knew they were coming. But no one expected Nintendo to actually make the realistic Zelda.

Microsoft fans and Sony fans are just as fanatic as Nintendo fans. There were probably like one or two people that were crying at the conference and now Nintendo fans are getting labelled as a bunch of fanatics. I'm sick of hearing IGN's editorials on "why Nintendo is failing" and "how Microsoft beat the pants off Nintendo". Why don't they ever make any editorials on how Nintendo has succeeded? Fans of every console love and defend it just as much as any other fan, IGN just likes to point out everything that's "wrong" with Nintendo, and I guess now that includes their fans...

It's the popular thing now to hate on Nintendo ::) Everyone wants to look cool and be like, "Yo, I am so 1337 coz I have an XBOX and I play teh mature games like Halo and Grand Theft Auto!" You can't admit to liking anything made by Nintendo, even Zelda, because Nintendo is "teh kiddy."

But you know, all those haters are going to be backtracking the moment the next Zelda comes out and blows everything out of the water. It will be like, "What are you talking about? I never once believed Nintendo sucked." And before Neph comes in and says it's not out yet...I say...so what? I believe that it's going to be the best game ever. :p

Ditto. And whats wrong with Nintendo fans being fanatics, anyways? It doesn't hurt anything, only means we buy Nintendo stuff and are REALLY happy about it.

I believe Metroid, Mega Man and a few other franchises are just as old, if not older, than Zelda, but the point is it has staying power because they're great games, even if the graphics are "kiddie" in some peoples opinions.

In one of the E3 2K4 demos, people would cheer at stuff like him picking up the anti-SOB stick..........err, I mean Plasma Sword.

:lol :lol

Lol, ya, the best is when you're argueing with someone over consoles or games or what have you, and they try to say that Nintendo fanboys are the worst when they themselves have been argueing just as passionately as you. It's also funny how they use personal attacks to try and prove their point.

Yep, stupid hypocrits. (sp?) Personal attacks prove nothing, but they try and use them to discredit those they don't like.

I doubt people will be playing Halo franchise games in 20 years because Bungie will likely create new franchises. Of course, since Halo 2 concludes the Human vs. Covenant War, there isn't alot left to go on, but you never know.

Oh, they'll come up with prequels and spin-offs of all sorts. I mean, there have been people who have written books on it, I'm sure they'll be able to create more inside the "Halo universe".

Heck no...they'll be lucky if they get a second release... :lol

However...I do beleive some people have something to cry about. I mean...growing up with Link, Mario, all that crap...for some could be like God is to Christians. The Big N consoles are thier bibles. The games the chapters. There's nothing wrong with being passionate about something, but there is somethin wrong with bein a wuss :lol. Dry those eyes crybabies!!! :'(

There's nothing wrong with Nintendo fans being pasionate at all. It just shows that Nintendo means a whole lot more to their fans then Microsoft and Sony do to theirs. And of course, Nintendo has been doing consoles for far longer, so there's much more to be passionate about.

It's like if Ford went out of business, car enthusiaists would probably cry, just like we would if Nintendo stopped making games. Man, thats such a sad thought I'm tearing up right now.

Too passionate? no... thats a result of making a good product :)

alrighty.. sometimes we are too passionate...

but honestly... Nintendo makes a great product. IMO ... I don't need any other systems. I have a hard enough time trying to keep up on the Gamecube.
