Best Buy closing out 80GB PS3

The PS3 pricing structure is like a really wily monkey. You may think you have him, you've got your stun club and net all ready and then ... poof! He loses you, leaving behind only a monkey-shaped cloud of dust. In what appears to be its latest juke, the 80 GB version of the PS3 will apparently go closeout (read: no new shipments) at Best Buy stores, according to an internal memo sent to PS3 Fanboy.

What does this mean for the PS3 exactly? We've checked with our team of experts and are now able to report that we have absolutely no clue. It's worth noting that in Japan, the 20 and 60 GB SKUs of the system were dropped to focus all efforts on the 40GB model, but we don't know if that's what's happening here. The only facts now seem to be that something is up, and Sony's saying it's business as usual. We'll let you know when we hear more.

So it begins. -_-

Sadness, this is utter booboo from doodooville.

I have no clue why Sony would do such a thing, yet Best Buy and Circuit City does the same thing sadly with the 360, refusing to carry Core units....those cheeky monkies >.>!

they may do three things here.

1. lower the price of the 40GB and then release another type of the PS3 with backwards compat.

2. add backwards compat. to the 40GB

3. do both things

This is just speculation from me but, wouldn't those seem very obvious?

I got a PS3 so I don't mind much. :lol

I can see it now "OHHHH SONY! WHAT'S UP NOW?! NOW YOU HAVE A CHEAP SYSTEM AND THAT'S IT!...wha...what? Oh...we've been complaining about the price? oh...well...YOU GOTZ NO GAMEZ!"

I was actually thinking "Wow, the reason I didn't buy a 40gig PS3 was because, firstly, I'm not ready to get a PS3 yet, secondly, I wanted the features of the 80gig PS3. Now, since I didn't buy a PS3 within a year of its launch, I'll be forced to get an inferior version of it."

See my point?

Hopefully, Sony will not keep the 40gig as the only PS3 model.

I don't think you get what kind of people I was targeting. :lol

By features, are you talking about backwards compatibility and a larger hard drive? Chances are, you have a PS2, correct? And, if you needed the extra hard drive space, you could just buy a hard drive. Problem solved, and all for less than the higher models. :)

My PS2 is on the verge of death right now. I've had the thing for over 6 years, and I don't know how much longer it'll last, unfortunately. :(

The other feature that's in the 80gig, that isn't in the 40, that I'm worried about, is built in wi-fi, so I could connect to the internet, without having to run a 50 foot ethernet cord, from the network, to my PS3.

Either way, this basically clinches it. I'm saving my money for building a new PC, and push getting a PS3 back a bit.

Just buy the logitech wireless router it works on PS3 and Xbox 360 and it only costs $20.
problem solved

Is it a decent router? At $20, I'm reluctant to run out and buy it, because I have serious doubts about how reliable such a cheap router can be.

Its the Logitech Play Link. On amazon it's $60 but, if you search around there's sales for it on other sites. It's been out since the PS2 and original Xbox first had online.

Try Ebay out. Also just do a search =P

wait, but that means I gotta get the Wireless adapter for the 360, in order for this Logitech device to work, correct?

no, just plug one logitech thing into your xbox, and plug another logitech thing into your wire/wireless router. the network sees it as an ethernet cable, but its just two boxes talking to each other.
