Sega Genesis Attack of the Cloned Sega Genesis Systems Thread (56k warning)

they made two more of the "Radicias" Vol. 2 and a "Street Fighter 2" edition that includes Ghouls N Ghosts with it as a bonus!

I just had to pick up one of these. I have become interested in clone systems ever since both of my Game Gears died and I also lost a Sega CD to the "old age" system syndrome. Yeah I know that there are no clones that cover those, but I am interested in the basics with a hope for 32X someday.

The outward appearance is bazaar. The metallic red and silver reminds me of Ironman.
I tried the controllers with some racers, some shooters, and Ms Pacman. I wanted to give them a chance in spite of the negative reviews I've read. I was sitting about five feet from the system and they do "work." My game kept pausing on me whenever the gameplay got tense. Shaky shaky buttons and the sort of floaty gameplay feel just doesn't get it for me. I am wondering if this was a cost cutting thing for the system. The RF controllers that came with my FC16 Go are super great. Bottom line, if you want that precise precision tight responsive control, nothing beats the original Sega Genny controller for playing Sega games. (And I never thought of thiings like that until I used these controllers.) The RetroN 3 controllers are a nice conversational piece for about a couple of minutes but I would not recommend anyone considering this as their buying point for the system.

Nice retro system, I love it. Already found that it plays Genny games that the Retrogen will not play. That is a big plus. I will be spending a lot of time with this system over this next week. I'm taking the whole 4th of July week off. So I will return to make some more comments.

At this point I would recommend this system to anyone into retro gaming. The three big pros of this system is 1. Original controllers can be used. 2. S-video for Genesis and SNES. 3. NES, SNES, and the Sega Genesis in one box. Being able to use the original controllers brings it closer than any other clone system that I have played to the real original gaming experience.

So far my impressions are as follows,

NES- is a mixed bag. Just an average NOAC. I'm OK with it.

Sega Genesis- Rich colors, not sure I like the S-video. The audio is where it is disappointing to me. On most of the games that I have played on it so far, the music is set at a very low volume. Lightening Force is silent when it comes to the music. (I can't believe I am saying this) The RetroGen has got a better (maybe if I stuff a rag into my mouth) sound chip. And I would rather play my Genny games on it. (no, no I can't believe I said that)

SNES- This is the Gem of the system. Can't complain so far with this one. Still not sure I like the S-video. Donkey Kong was nothing but pixels, had to switch back to the composite video.

Even with its problems, I like it. I know clones are not perfect. Original controllers are the big plus here. You are not going to enjoy your experience without them. Some games look great with the S-video, it just depends on the game and how it depended on the scan lines for its appearance. I really like having all three systems in the same space as a SNES console.

PS: I know why they chose the Sega chip, it has a better compatiblity than the RetroGen.
