I wanted to follow up and let you know where we are on the post I made a few months ago on Gamesave Tampering. Today we took action on some of the accounts we have identified as the most serious offenders who have violated the Xbox LIVE Terms of Use by tampering with their Gamerscore and Achievements.

The steps today takes the form of the following:

• Resetting the entire Gamerscore for an account to zero
• The account will be unable to regain all previously obtained achievements and Gamerscore, however, the players will have the ability to gain future Achievements by earning them fairly, like the majority of the Xbox LIVE community does.
• The account will be clearly labeled as a cheater for the community to view on xbox.com. You can see an example here. In dash, the personal view of the gamercard will be labeled as well.

Xbox LIVE remains committed to keeping the service free of cheating in order to maintain a fair and level playing field for everyone.

To read more about Gamerscore corrections read the FAQ on Xbox.com

Edit: Added link directly to our internal test account Gamercard that shows the cheater section.

Mod EDIT: I put the article in quotes so people when get confused when the article says "I". :)

This is great and all but what happens if MS accidentally labels your account as a cheater? I know the probability is really low, but the reason I bring this up is because of the whole Windows Genuine software fiasco they had a while back. For those who don't know MS has this program to check to see if your copy of Windows is legit, but apparently it messed up and innocent people got locked out of their computers because it thought they had an illegitimate copy.

I guess I'm just thinking too much about this. :-\

No you're not. I bet it's only a matter of time until we see lawsuits filed because of accidental labeling.

Oh Wow, yeah, yeesh....I just remembered hearing about that nightmare. Phew, I hope it doesn't end up like this :(

Probably quite alot. I don't do an x-box LIVE, but I know that there's plenty of cheaters out there. But you would assume that a warning like this is enough to bring the counter much lower.

There's at least eight million Livers. 10% is eight hundred thousand(800,000 for those who don't like reading numbers). So, a fifth of that(2%) is one hundred and sixty thousand(160,000).

Yeah, it's basic, cut it down to 10%(remove a zero), then 1%(remove another), then add another 1%.

Cheaters should be publically flogged... It's just annoying. I hate the speed hacks and automatic headshots the worst though...
