About downloading games...

SpartanEvolved
I know you will be able to download older games for the Revolution. But I have some questions I hope someone can answer

1. What games will be available? (All games, only 1st party games, etc)
2. How will they be stored? (With no internal hard drive I couldn't see being able to store all the games on one system)
3. Will the downloads be free? If not, what will they cost?
4. What systems are the games from? (I think it is NES, SNES, and N64)

That's all I have for now, thanks for any help.

They havent released much details yet. Except that as of right now its only 1st party games and that they are trying to work out something with 3rd parties. Thats it. Unless somebody else here has some new info.

All nintendo produced games will be able to be downloaded onto the Revo. Nintendo 64, SNES/Super Famicom, and Nintendo Entertainment System/Famicom games should be available. It is uncertain where or not third party developers will be in on it. All downloaded games will be downloaded to the built-in 512 flash memory. The only reason the Revo doesn't have builtin hard disk is because Nintendo hopes to snag the market of the young. It was believed that children in kindergarten would use the Revo and decided that they might damage the hard disk. So, the opted for the flash memory.

*prays to God above poster is kidding*

Seriously, I will send BV a 5 dollar donation for his store if you can prove what you just said.

Well, I'm not really sure what you want. I've done heavy research into digging up details on the Revolution (Revo). So, what I post about is what I've gathered from LOTS of places. From official to shady, I looked EVERYWHERE. Seriously, I spent two full days online digging through rumors and official statements to be able to be compile information for an article I wrote on the controller. I even dug through forum after forum looking for what looked liked bored developers dropping hints. (NOT FUN.)

I'm not sure which you want verified, but here's one of my sources about the memory being flash:

The information currently availible is somewhat decieving according to what will and what will not be available for download. What is being said is "there are currently no plans to bring Nintendo's entire library of games to Revolution free of cost." The free of cost is the important thing. With the research I've done, it appears that the whole Nintendo library will more than likely be available... eventually and with cost for some games (they need to find SOME way to make a profit). At this point in time, Nintendo doesn't have it's full library in downloadable form, but that will be worked on. They have 221 titles ready at this time. More titles will follow.

A good general article on the Revo can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_revolution
That should clarify a bit.

No, I knew about the Flash drive. I read it in a magazine. The whole, and I quote,

That is what I hope you were kidding about. My friends and I move our Xboxes around haphazardly MANY times, and none of us have ever experienced a hard drive error.

Nope. Wasn't kidding about that. It should be said somewhere in the IGN article. I think it's a pathetic reason to choose the flash memory, but who cares what I think.

which is faster... hard drive or flash memory?

BV :hat

The flash drive. Plus it probably makes the Revolution cheaper since flash drives arent as expensive. Who knows maybe you wouldnt have to buy memory cards either. I say it was a good decision by Nintendo. Despite what the reasoning behind it was.

The Revolution itself will more than likely not use memory cards. The top/side of the Revolution has space for all the Gamecube accessories (controllers, memory cards ect) but the actual Revolution part of the console doesn't appear to have space for memory cards.

Well then there you go. Nintendo is definitly going to do well with this console.

But what I am saying is, how can you save all those old school games plus data from new ones onto a mere 512 MB Flash drive? I don't know the exact numbers, but I imagine you wouldn't be able to.

Old games especially NES games barely take up a MB. Usually a few KB. Same with data.

I know that the NES and most SNES games wil be insignificant amounts of the 512 MB. But the N64 games would fill it up alot faster...

Maybe a little more but they wont be that big. You should be fine.

I guess you can count out having a season in any EA sports game, as those alone take up considerable amounts of memory.

As for that children breaking a flash drive... if that was the actual reasoning behind it, then anyone who ever said that Nintendo is not a company aimed at children can kiss my... well, you know. Not using a hard drive because little kids might break it... I think that's the silliest thing I've ever heard.

No they will use a flash drive because of it. Or so that one poster said. I need to verify this though. He didnt post any links so Im skeptical about his info.

I am skeptical about it too, I seriously think the only reason they aren't using a harddrive is to save space and keep costs down. I am still waiting for a link.

Wow, you were right. They just lost a lot points to the public's general view of them being mature. They are mature, but they don't show it as well as the other consoles.
