Love & Peace - Vash The Stampede
So I have finally betrayed Sony and am getting a 360 elite.

Anything I should know?

I'm getting a Nyko Intercooler EX (white) as well, so I was wondering does the white one still work with the elite?

Also, does anyone have any comments on the intercooler ex, like if I should return it or use it as it will help? i've been seeing user reviews around the inter webs and was wondering.

Do NOT get a Nyko Intercooler! Nyko Intercoolers actually cause your system to overheat, so you're better off not using it (unless they've been heavily reworked since I was working at GameStop, where we got 99% of them back for that complaint). The 360's own cooling system works fine...it might be loud, but it works. If you really want a fan though, try Pelican's The Cooler. It's got a better record.

What Mai said. Intercoolers are not needed especially if you happen to get an elite with a new falcon chip in it. Even the ones with the zephyr motherboard run slightly cooler.

With MS's new extended warranty there is no need to get an intercooler. Use the money to get more games.

Don't get a cooler at all.

Am I the only one who noticed he still hasn't gotten the system? That means it'll be a new one with the cooler chip.

go right ahead

I say go purchase it. But that's only because I own stock in the Nyko company. If not for that I wouldn't do it.

I guess you didn't notice my post. :p

It's still a possibility that he won't get a new chip in his system. Unfortunately from what I've been hearing is that some store are hoarding the new chip systems and selling off the bad ones. He needs to do some investigating first in order to get the better 360.

First off, I ended up returning the intercooler for a rechargeable battery and charger pack. Second, I had gotten the intercooler ex, the connector is metallic so it doesn't melt.

i had no idea the intercooler would melt your system... isn't that exactly the opposite of its purpose?

Supposed to, yes. It also voids the 360's warranty, so when it destroys your console you don't get any help from Microsoft.

Aftermarket cooling devices for consoles are a complete waste of money, and only harm the operation of the console.

I've been thinking of getting one of those laptop coolers, the ones that sit under the laptop. Put it under my 360 and use an external usb hub powered by something other than my 360.

Is that a good idea? Better than the intercooler?

I still fail to understand your overwhelming desire to waste money on unnecessary garbage. Just keep your 360 in a ventilated area, as specified in the instruction manual, and allow the device to function without issue as the well-paid industrial designers intended.

I do have my 360 in a well ventilated area. I have it sitting on top of my computer desk, nothing around it, away from the floor. Play a game for an hour or two, and the back is HOT. Hot enough to cause damage, over time, to anything that is heat sensitive. I know MS extended the warranty on it, but I don't want to go through the trouble of sending it and all that stuff.

OH! this makes me wonder. If your 360 breaks down, and you send it in, do they fix it, or give you one of the new ones that have a less chance of overheating?
