Xbox Live Packet Flooding?

| CROWLEY |

Religion is a scare tactic, it causes murder.
So, I was playing COD WAW and some kid was pissed that I kept beating and I won't lie, I'm no saint. I provoked him to a point where I thought I heard a blood vessel in his head pop. So he said he was going to boot me. Well, where I thought he couldn't, he did. In fact he booted me from xbox live and cut the internet from my computer.

What is it he did? I know it has something to do with locking my IP and sending packets but how could he do this? Doesn't microsoft have some kind of protection? What programs may he of used this way I can find out how to defend against it in the future. I've looked online and there seem to be some tutorials on how to do it but I'm not a douche and I'd rather defend against it than ruin other peoples internet.

Call Microsoft and report it.

1-800-4MY-Xbox

The only thing I know, is he reported bad feedback on you.

Get his GT and they might ask around what time it happened, but call up Microsoft and report it.

Reporting bad feedback wouldn't cut off your internet, in fact, reporting bad feedback doesn't really do anything at all right away...  Either it was a weird coincidence, or the kid did something to your connection.

It has nothing to do with bad feedback or anything like that. I did some research and apparently what he did was locate my IP with a couple of programs "Cain" and "Able" and then overloaded me with "Packets" using an "XR Booter". I called MS and they of course couldn't speak proper English and did absolutely nothing. SO essentially, the kid committed a felony (terrorism) and got away with it. It's unbelievable that MS will do nothing about it.

I agree that he did something illegal, but how is it "terrorism"?

It's going to be really tough to get this kid. Just make sure you have his gamertag. Also, did you call the xbox number or just the regular MS number?

Lol... it isn't terrorism. It's being a jerk online... while not terrorism, it is wrong.

Reporting bad feedback will not do anything whatsoever. Filing a complaint will only do something if multiple people file a complaint for the same thing in a certain time frame.

"Hacking" by legal standards is considered "having knowingly accessed a computer without authorization or exceeding authorized access" and hacking is considered a felony offense under the pretense of terrorism.

On another note, I have his gamertag and I called 18004MYXBOX.

Source? I'm still pretty skeptical. Especially since he didn't hack or access your computer, just denied your access to the internet.

Good luck though. I really do hope you get this punk.

No, hacking does not fall under terrorism. There is such thing as hacking for terrorism, but not all hacking is known as terrorism.

It's like robbing a bank. Some people will rob banks for the purpose of spreading terror/supporting terrorism financially. Some people rob banks for their own personal reasons (usually money).

Denial of Service attacks suck...

Is your Xbox on a router with a built in firewall? I don't know if that would help against packet overloading or not, but it's the only idea I have.
