Too early or too crazy? "Xbox 3" is in the works as we speak

Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.
Chris Lewis from Microsoft Home & Entertainment said that the company has already began working on the Xbox 3, the 3rd generation Xbox console.

Wow........I think they should wait for some newer technology to come out before they start making a whole new system......

I guess since they have the money, they cant really lose.

I remember after the Gamecube came out Nintendo was questioned about when they were planning on developing their next system. The answer they gave was something along the lines of "development has already begun, I don't know where people get the idea that we stop thinking about the future."

The moral of the story is, gaming companies like Nintendo, or in this case Microsoft, are always thinking about and developing future consoles. That doesn't mean they're ignoring the current ones.

I would imagine that some ideas are thrown about in the development of the current gen hardware that isn't feasable yet, so the folks who make these sort of decisions say something to the effect of "keep working on that for the next gen." Y'know what I mean?

The hardware Dev team would be pretty bored if they had to sit around for years after completing a system. The obvious thing to say when your system is done ... "what next?" :)

Not at all. They are just not going to sit back and relax. Maybe we will see some serious innovation from their next hardware.

It's not crazy, but I do think it's too early. They can throw around ideas all they want, but they should really also wait and see how this gen plays out a little, especially as how there seems to be two schools of thinking on how a console should be.

There's the Sony/MS school of thought: More power and better graphics = teh win. They also favor multi-purpose consoles.

Then there's the Nintendo school of thought: Sacrifice power and graphics for control and gameplay, and have the console be mostly about games.

Most people consider Nintendo the wild-card, but honestly, why would Sony have put tilt motion into the PS3 controller if they didn't think Nintendo was on to something?

This generation is going to be very interesting.

Because they couldn't put rumble in it.

Im sure they could've if they wanted to. Even Immersion, the company who holds the rumble patent, has said that it can be done. Personally I wish they hadn't taken it out but if that's what Sony wants then so be it. Not going to bother me.

Back on topic, This has been going on for a long time now. No need to go further than Stealth's post for the reason.

Stealth hit it on the nail, we can't stop them for wanting to move forward. It's not crazy or too early as Mai said. You gotta stay ahead of the game if you want to compete with the market.

I think it would be cool for something to implement one of those VR helmets or some different type of controller to mix things up a bit......and I'm sure Microsoft could do it. And.......I am guessing whatever it is will be super powerful.
