The Official "What I Gave For Christmas" Thread

I know some people don't want to act like they're bragging about how generous they are, and others just don't want to think about how much Christmas costs them every year, but good Christmas gift ideas are hard to come by and when you finally strike a good one... well a moment like that ought to be shared.

Unfortunately I don't really have such a story. I'm still a "starving student" who's hoping that Christmas will be a nice personal boost with respect to items I desperately need but can't afford, so this year I mostly just bought cards for everyone who I would have given a present to had I had the money, and I spent a little extra time actually writing something personalized in it for them. I did give one of my friends the book "Mere Christianity" and another called "The Buddhist Experience" because we often get into conversations about religion (imagine that!) and he had asked me one time if there were any good books on the subject I could recommend. He too is a starving student, so book swapping is generally what we do for Christmas, and over the years we've basically exchanged book shelves. :lol

Anyway, if you want to list up what you gave others for Christmas that's cool, or if you just want to mention one item because there's a good story behind it, that would be awesome as well.

My biggest gift, was being able to bring my brother home for Christmas as a big surprise to my parents. I had to keep it a big secret for a week. It was well planned out, all I had to do was tell my parents that there was a big Christmas surprise at the Olive Garden. We got there around 630pm on Christmas Eve and low and behold my parents nearly flipped out to see my brother standing there :) I honestly have to say, that this had to be the best gift I could ever give my parents, because they thought they wouldn't be able to see my brother for another 2 years, but this was a sweet treat.

Um...

I bought my grandma a $10 gas card...

Dad a sled for his ice fishing stuff...

Ma a couple towels, oven mitts, and an ice cream scooper...

Ben, I transferred both of his toons on WoW that he had on my account and I let him have all the consoles on Christmas Day.

I gave one of my sister's sock monkey socks (she is obsessed with sock monkeys), me and my sister split the cost of a bracelet for my mom so i only paid about $50, we also split the cost of a watch and a shirt for my dad, gave my grandma some lotion, my grandpa a shirt, my other sister a candle (loves candles), my brother a shirt, and my cousins I bought some toys from target. I know I sound cheap because I didn't get much but I am out of a job right now haha.

I gave my niece and nephew Super Paper Mario and Wii Play with the extra Wii Remote. It hurt me dearly to get them a Wii game, but it was Christmas. On the bright side, they agreed with me that the xbox 360 is much better. :D

My kids made out like bandits. My son got a guitar that is motion sensitive, a Tonka dump truck that's giamungus. My daughter got all kinds of girl stuff. A two foot tall horse, and some other four year old stuff. My youngest got practically all of the toddler section of Toys R Us.

I got my wife the microwave that she had been wanting for a long time. I also got her some candles and whatnot. I also got her an oil lamp that she had wanted for a while.

Props for actually pulling that off. That's like something from a movie. I know I wouldn't be able to keep it a secret that well.

If I was you I'd have bought a 360 game, wrapped it up, and told them that unless they admitted the 360 is the superior console, I wouldn't get them a Wii game as a gift. Then, after they acquiesced to my demands, I would give them the 360 game, and if they complained I would blame it on them, saying that they told me, in no uncertain terms, that they thought the 360 was better. Its a win-win situation, you don't have to buy a crappy game, and they don't have to play a crappy game. Everyone's happy. :lol

A microwave? Are cooking appliances really "gifts"? :lol

But seriously, an oil lamp is pretty cool. Not a standard gift by any means, but something that I could see being quite pleasant to have.

My best friend who's back from Boot Camp for the holidays took me to GameStop to get me a Christmas gift today...he ended up going over the top a little bit.

I walked away, with Gears of War 2, Blue Dragon, Ninja Gaiden 2, Mass Effect, a 1600 Microsoft Points card (which I used most of it on Castle Crashers..LOVE THIS GAME!), and a 12 month membership to X-box live. :o

Ah man. I should have consulted with you. Next year. :lol

I got my friend Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and Viewtiful Joe. Gave my sis Cooking Mama on the Wii. :)

I got Joy season 5 of the L Word.

Joy and I went halves and got our friend Frank a 60 gig hard drive for the 360.

For my mom I had a sweater made with a picture of my cat (who she loves) on it.

Mostly I just got people $25 gift cards for restaurants, since everyone I know loves to eat.
