Re: Guillermo Del Toro Not Directing The Hobbit

I just found this out today too. For shame. I can't imagine this project will ever get cancelled though given the money making potential it has.

P.S. Michael Bay directing the Hobbit would probably lead to mass Tolkien nerd suicide, hehe

Re: Guillermo Del Toro Not Directing The Hobbit

A Michael Bay Hobbit would be awesome, though not in the same way LotR was awesome.

Definitely disappointed to hear this. I had high hopes for this film with Del Toro in the driver's seat. Without him, I fear for how it might turn out.

As long as PJ doesn't try and come to the rescue...

Yeah, it would just have explosions, explosions, and more explosions. Part of the reason why Michael Bay is pretty much the laughing stock of the developer community. :lol

Yesterday, The Sun broke news that actor Martin Freeman had been offered a seven-figure salary to play Bilbo Baggins in the long-delayed cinematic version of The Hobbit. Unfortunately for Freeman, a scheduling conflict led to him turning down the role and apparently Peter Jackson and company were ready to begin looking for an unknown actor to don the furry feet.

Not so fast, says EW. In an updated story this afternoon, sources close to the project tell the website that MGM and New Line Cinemas have come up with a revised shooting schedule for the project that would allow Freeman to make both The Hobbit and reprise his role as Dr. Watson in the hit BBC series Sherlock. Apparently negotiations are ongoing.

Freeman isn't exactly a household name here in the States yet -- but he's best known for his role as Tim in Ricky Gervais' British version of The Office. ยป
