The big Q: Battery life?

Yeah, we've all wondered about this. How long does the battery live? I heard two and a half hours when watching a movie, and about four hours when playing games. Thsi can't be true, right? I mean charge the battery, watch a movie, battery dead. Right. And four hours gametime? Double that and we're talking. Stick with it and you've just lost a customer.

its probably 4.5 hours with games.

but with the Wifi on.... I think its about 3 hours. I am testing that out via wifi.... to see if thats right or not.

Isn't that a bit short? What's the point in a superb handheld console you can't use?

It seems short but in reality I dont think too many people are going to use it for that long. I cant think of a situation that would make you use the PSP for more than two hours outside of a power source.

Some of us travels a lot. Guess we're just the minority no one cares about. :'(

I dont think its that they dont care it's just that the PSP is so powerful beyond regular handhelds that the battery is going to suffer. And they do sell car adapters and second battery packs. But I understand that that just means more money for you to spend. So I guess the PSP isn't for you.

I wouldn't call it a "so powerful beyond regular handhelds"

In reality... its not THAT much more powerful.

IT just takes a memory card to hold music... not much effort to play it.
The only thing it has is the screen... and that is 130,000 pixels to the DS's 100,000 pixels.

True it uses memory cards. But it still has to read a disc in order to play games and the umd movies, and that eats up a lot of the juice in the battery.

My friend played Lumines for 3 hours straight one night. Immediately after that he checked how much battery life he had left (after hearing it only had about 3-4.5 hours tops) and he had 75% left. It depends on what exactly you're playing, watching, or listening too.

Come on. Look at Ridge Racer on the DS and then look at Ridge Racer on the PSP, and tell me without lieing that the PSP is not substantially more powerful.

Advanced games cost a lot more battery life than regular ones. This is why it don't really cost anything to listen to music, but watching a movie cost serious battery life since the PSP needs to read the disc non-stop.

Yeah... games like Lumines don't tap the Cd drive that much.
But it also depends on the screen brightness.... how loud you have the volume up with the speakers (supposively it doesn't use as much via headphones....etc. Thats retarded. Its like you have to have the perfect combo settings to get a good battery life ::) Thats the reason Metal Gear Acid is like it is.... because supposively the PSP couldn't do a normal MGS style game.

I have seen Ridge racer PSP and DS. yes... Ridge Racer is GRAPHICALLY better. but in all honesty (as I said before) The PSP is NOT a technical wonder. I own them both.... and playing Movies / viewing pics / listening to music.... that is not considered powerful. Everyone needs to get past the screen. Hey... I admit it, I like the PSP.. I like twisted metal on it.... and a couple other games. But the system is WAY overhyped... the games are mediocre... and I don't think the system is near as powerful as what people make it out to be.

That's not true at all. You can extend the life of the battery marginally by fiddling around with one or two settings, but its not like there's a whole checklist of settings you have to be aware of before you start playing. If you don't know anything about the different settings that doesn't mean you're going to be missing out on hours of battery life.

That's like me saying that the DS is NOT an innovative system, everyone just needs to get past the touch screen. The reason why peole are going nuts over the screen is because no one has ever seen visuals like that on a handheld before. It is a technical achievement.

But a good question would be something like why bother having it this advanced? It's like you said, most people play it for an hour max. If you want really great games, go play on a real PS2. Or x-box, for that matter.

Take the new cell phones for instance. You've got color display, mp3 music, radio, digital cameras, internet, pretty much everything you want. You can even call people with it.

Since it drains battery life? :? Sure I want games to look great and all that, but great looks doesn't equal great games. I would rather have great gameplay than great looks. If someone could give me Final Fantasy 4 of 5 for the cell phone, I'd be happier than if someone gave me Mercenaries on a PSP and told me the battery only works for about two hours.
