Tetris DS Friend Codes Topic

No I don't have this but I am curious, and forgive my ignorance, but what are friend codes? I've heard mention of this for Animal Crossing, which I hope to have soon, but am not sure what it entails.
 
friend codes are the codes for the games that you get to play online Via Wifi with your friends. They need to the code to connect to you :)
conntect to you DIRECTLY that is... rarely will you get your friends searching for games randomly :D

come on people... someone else get this online. What's the deal!?
