Super Mario 64 DS

SM64 DS is worth buying just for the mini-games. Seriously. They are that fun!

My current faves include this one where on the bottom screen you have a slingshot and on the top screen, Bob-ombs are falling from the sky. You use the stylus to pull back the sling shot and try to hit the bob-ombs before they reach the ground. Another one of my favorites is a card game where you have to match up pairs and try not to have any cards left over.

As for SM64 itself, I'm having a great time with it. The controls with a DS take a little getting used to, but if you use the thumb strap on the touch screen, it works pretty well. I got through the first level pretty easily and am now working on the stage with the Whomp boss.

Now as I never played SM64 on the 64, I can't really answer any comparison questions (ie how do the graphics/controls/etc. from SM64DS compare to SM64 on the N64) on it. But if you have questions that aren't in that vein, I will try to answer them.

man... I still cannot get over the fact that you have not played SM64 yet.. :lol

you need to play it to give us the comparison :D

Wow...I thought everyone played SM64...O_O It revolutionized my world man.

.....thumb strap? Can you go more in-depth with this feature? Never read about it before...

What kind of protective coating is on the screens, or do they just get fingerprinted/scratched by fingers/the stylus?

The thumbstrap is this little piece of plastic that you attach around your thumb and use it on the touch screen to control your character. It's more efficient than using the d-pad because it allows for analog movement, and it's more efficient than just using your thumb by itself. The book describes the thumbstrap as being good for sliding movement on the touch screen, which there's a lot of in SM64 DS.

I'm not sure how they have the touch screen set up. Yes, it does get fingerprints. But those are easy to wipe off. As for scratching, I've playing a few games that required intensive scratching with the stylus, but there are no marks on the touch screen to indicate such. So I think it's pretty good quality.

I had a chance today to play more SM64 DS and I really enjoy it.

I hope they'll have replacement thumbstraps... I'll probably lose mine quick ::D

I don't get it either... You MUST play Mario 64.

I got most of the stars on this but haven't played in ages. Once I got some other games it just didn't interest me to continue...i'll finish it off sometime.

Mario 64 changed everything.

Mario 64 DS is good if you do not have the original, which you should. It should be purchased as soon as you read this text along with various other must-have 64 games.

I liked this game a lot at first. Then New Super Mario Bros. came out. I guess I just love 2d games over 3d. I havent played Mario 64 for a while now.

I bought this game a few days ago, and I think it's a blast!! I haven't gotten vary far yet, so the differences are minimal that I can see.

The obvious one is using Yoshi as the main character. This is the only thing that I don't really like. Mario has so many cool moves that Yoshi can't do.

The controls are different too, obviously. I personally like the N64 feel better. But that's easy to overcome since the new one is on a handheld.

I never played the 64 version before this so I have nothing to compare it to.

Well that settles it then, spankings for everyone in this thread except those who know the beauty of Super Mario 64..

My eyes hurt from this game. I've been playing it some more today, and if I don't take a break I'll get sucked in!!

Six stars... And 124 to go!!

Not I. I guess I am just too hard headed. I'm up to like 14 or so. I put it down when I get frustrated, but I end up continuing. I am determined to beat this game.

dang man... you missed out on a lot!

I know what you mean... it gets tiring... but then you pick it back up and play again.

Have you beat the N64 version?
