When Ubisoft didn't show Splinter Cell: Conviction at its last event, people worried a little about how the game might be doing. Fear not — the game's doing great. So great, they say, that Ubisoft just decided it'd be better off releasing it as part of its "2009-2010" lineup instead of in this year's fiscal fourth quarter. You know, to "bolster" next year, as the company said in its fiscal first quarter results statement.

As peoples comments have exclaimed, the game was heavily overshadowed by other games in the genre. no big deal

Although it does bring in money for Ubisoft, gotta keep an eye out on it

What other games are there in the genre?

Lets see, according to its genre (Modern Action Adventure) MGS4, GTA4, Saints Row, Bully. More?

MGS4 - Futuristic stealth warfare game.

GTA4 - Mafia game.

Saints Row - Gangster rap game.

Bully - Schoolhouse bullying game.

Splinter Cell: Conviction - Gritty crime drama.

I see the connection.

Nope according to what sites list them as they are considered in the same genre.

Modern Action Adventure.

I dont see how that debunks my Modern generalization cause they all take place in Modern Times.

That isn't the genre Splinter Cell is in. It's a stealth action game. MGS4 is in the same genre. The others aren't even remotely close to the same genre.

But they are Modern Action Adventures, why go into the specifics when we can lump them up even more together.

because they are not the same gameplay genre. that's why.

What,

They are all MODERN titles, taking place in MODERN times
They all have ACTION as a large piece of the gameplay
They all take you on an ADVENTURE through the locales and locations and such.

I dont see where the disconnect is.

Because playing a stealth action game like Metal Gear Solid 4 gives you a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT experience than say Grand Theft Auto 4 or... Bully... Come on now, you're telling me that they can be put side by side and compared just because they're "Action-Adventure"? That's such an insanely broad category.

Splinter Cell
Prince of Persia
Ninja Gaiden
Resident Evil
Devil May Cry
Disney's Dinosaur
Enter the Matrix
Harry Potter Games

Those are a very few of the thousands of games that are lumped into "Action-Adventure." You're telling me that they all play the same way and are even comparable in the slightest?

Because their gameplay is radically different. GTA and Splinter Cell are SO far away from each other in terms of gameplay. Putting them in the same genre makes absolutely no sense. Stealth games are a small sub-genre, yes but if you ever played one, you should know that putting it in the same genre as GTA and calling all future stealth games obsolete because GTA exists.

In stealth games, you use STEALTH to avoid your enemies. You avoid confrontation as much as possible. Your primary goal isn't killing everyone, but evading detection. In GTA, you are plopped into an open world and essentially told to do as you please. STEALTH however, is not a major component of GTA's gameplay. I don't see where the disconnect is, here.

I just dont know what to say anymore. Why would you ever group them together into a further sub-genre, now your just playing pick up sticks with this random smattering of names.

because you can't compare GTA with metal gear solid 4..... in anything there's no way you can.

How in the hell is Metal Gear Solid the same as Grand Theft Auto? The only thing similur is the fact that their games can be shrunk down to 3 simple letters (MGS and GTA).
