Does Sony's bad reliabillity with the PS2 worry you?

IE... there are A LOT of Sony systems in the repair shop.... its something like 1-in-3 or 1-in-6.

Do you think this reliability will translate over to the PSP? Or do you think it will be more reliable?
PLease do include your opinions.

Poll and post this up!

not to give negative hype to the PSP.... but honestly, I am worried.  If Sony has the rating it does with the Ps2 (a stationary home console).... then why should a portable handheld WITH moving parts be any better.... IF NOT a lot worse.

What will happen if its accidentally dropped... whether on carpet or harder surfaces?

Would the screen stop functioning? motor stop turning? other features break?

I'm hoping they will make a screen cover for that nice screen. It doesn't have the benefit of a clamshell design to protect it from scratches.

Definitely worried about the moving parts, though. I'm pretty careful with my handhelds but sometimes things happen that you can't control. I've dropped my SP a few times, for example.

i'm not too worried about it. the benefits that'll bring kind of drowns those a bit.
the ps2 breaking angered me, a lot at the time. but i'd still buy two of the over one of the other systems. the others are both good in so many areas, but there are games on the ps2 that the others don't have that i love. to each their own
if the games upcoming are good for the psp, i've no worries other than having to remember with the battery charger

I'm not.

Sony unreliability is a myth started by Nintendo fans because they couldn't accept they were getting outsold so badly by Sony.

Seriously, you guys are more fanatical than Al-Qaeda.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Nintendo fans start suicide bombing PSP and PS3 factories.

its not a fact.
Come on neph... I am sorry..... There is documented proof the Ps2 one of the "most failing" systems around.  This is not a myth.
This is a WELL KNOWN fact.  It should be a concern for those that are buying a PSP (moving parts in a handheld).... especially if you are paying 300+ for it.

If you are not worried about it... thats great. Thank you for sharing... AS it is nice to hear the other side (like Moltar explained).

Most of the problems are with launch systems though. If you don't get one of the launch systems, they are mostly ok.

Both the PS2 and XBOX improved after they made the launch systems, for example.

I will probably wait to get a PSP until well after launch, both so I can get one that's not a launch model and so that I can see what games other than Tales of Eternia that I want.

I will agree on that with the Xbox.... but the Ps2 is STILL having problems.

I have owned two ps1's, and 3 ps2 systems. None of them ever gave me the least little problem at all.

I had 3 Xbox systems..all 3 gave problems, 2 died completely.

Actually the only systems I have ever owned that gave me any problems at all was the Xbox....and I have owned/do own almost any system you can think of

i've heard the most problems with ps2, no doubt, but i've also heard problems with each system. i only hear more from ps2 b/c more people have it and play it, though they did mess something up with it, but it still doesn't worry me with the psp. going to put my reserve order down next week
