The price doesn't surprise me one bit, but believe me it will still sell at that price.

Now, the controller. Good to see Sony keeping things fresh. At first glance I thought they outright ripped off the Revolution controller, but all they really did was add tilt to the controller. All I hope is that Sony has given developers enough time to utilize it properly.

The price is going to keep me from buying one for a while but Im definitely excited about the PS3 a little more now.

That's pretty sad. I would expect that kind of behavior coming from a Nintendo fan though. It'll be laughable when the Wii comes out for hundreds of dollars cheaper and sells 1/10 of what the PS3 does...much like the GC and the PS2.

Can we please have at least one thread in here that doesn't break down to petty squabbles? C'mon already, let it go. Everyone needs to respect everyone else's likes and dislikes. If everyone liked the same things the world would be a pretty boring place.

Now getting back on topic, I watched the whole 2 hour press conference last night and I was blown away by much of what was said and shown. I really am looking forward to this. Most notable blown away moments....

FFXII - Though the heroine in the game looked an awful lot like Yuna, the game is beyond words. And even though I try to not be wooed by graphics and more by gameplay this is SquareEnix so you figure the chances are that the story will be as amazing and epic as the graphics.

Backwards Compatability - Over 13,000 title in both the PS1 and PS2 libraries. Amazing, simply amazing.

Two HDMI Connections - I don't have HD but I really was blown away when they showed that you could hook up 2 HDTV's into the system and placing them side by side could play games with a panoramic view of 32:9 instead of the 16:9. That's just insane. :o

The Eye Toy - When the one guy was holding up the glasses and they appeared on screen and were interacting with the environment, I was like DUUUUUUUUDE!!!!!!!!!

The price - The price is right where I figured it would be. For me the 20gig HDD PS3 will be all I need. That's the one I plan to get.

I saw the press conference but never caught a glimpse of the remote. Did they change it from the original boomerang design? If so, does anyone have pics?

13,000 titles? Are you sure that's right?

If I heard correctly that is the amount of titles in the PS1 and PS2 libraries combined. I'm sure they are counting every game whether it's multi-region or exclusive to one. Which makes me wonder if the region free will also include all region PS1 and PS2 titles and not just PS3 titles? It'll be interesting to see.

Found info on the controller...

Today at Sony's Press Conference in LA, Sony showed off the newest design of the PS3 controller. Bye, Bye boomerang, hello Dual Shock!

The PS3 controller Is set to include Bluetooth technology for wireless play with the addition of USB cables to wire the controller for recharging.

The most interesting announcement came regarding the inclusion of a ‘six-axis sensing system’ and the removal of the vibrating core. The press release stated that, "Pursuant to the introduction of this new six-axis sensing system, the vibration feature that is currently available on DUALSHOCK and DUALSHOCK 2 controllers for PlayStation and PlayStation 2, will be removed from the new PS3 controller as vibration itself interferes with information detected by the sensor."

Sounds exciting and hopefully the sensors will add a whole other dimension to the PS3 gameplay. This feature could possibly work well in an FPS game were the camera reacts to the movements of the controller. Stay tuned to PS3Portal.com for more live from the PS3Portal.com team at E3.

So no dual shock but it sounds like it's gonna be much, much cooler, plus the original design stays. Happy about that over here. The PS controller, in my opinion, is the best controller out there.

My apologies for the double post.

The coolest thing of all this is this....Launch Date November 17th, my vacation begins November 18th. :D :D Thank you Sony. Keeping my fingers crossed that the date stays there. 8)

I'm still not sold on this "moving the controller itself" idea. Perhaps once I play it myself I will consider it a good idea, but I think moving the controller itself to control things in the game could be a hassle, especially if you have to push other buttons at the same time. I always used to laugh at the way my mom would swing her arms from side to side whenever she played Mario Kart 64, I guess she might have been on to something...

I am happy they reverted back to the PS2 design though. Smart move. Although the article made it a little unclear, did they completely revert back to the PS2 design, or what?

As for the games, I'm currently plugging already overfilled bandwidth lines in an attempt to look at pictures and watch videos. I expect nothing short of transcendant once I finally gte through.

And that wikipedia thing was good for a laugh. One of the first things I ever learned from University was never to cite encyclopedias (especially online ones) as a source, because just about anyone can edit them. Case in point.

Now I am reading some stuff that the hdd's won't be the only differences between the $500 and $600 systems. I guess the memory stick and flash card slots won't be on the $500 system as well as the wifi. I believe also the 2 hdmi connections will not be included in the $500 one either, either just 1 or none.

Basically the $500 system is sounding more and more like the one I'd want anyway because, at least for now, I don't really care about all that other stuff.

Tommy it's FFXIII not FFXII. They are two different games. PS3 is gonig to kick ass but eventually i'll have all three. PS3 - Wii -360. The Wii looks fun and very interactive.
