Sega Saturn sega saturn help

ok,here is the deal...i have a saturn that i have had for years...since 1996..its my baby, and i have never had any problems with it until last week.i had moved in the last few months and had not played since i had moved in to my new house.i have played the thing at least once a week since i got it,but since it sat for two-three months without being played it will only load any game once at the boot up screen.so a game will play just fine until something has to be loaded such as new levels, bosses, ect then the game will just do nothing.for instance..in galactic attack when a new level needs to be loaded the ship is still movable, but the new level will not load.and with nights into dreams, once a boss is loading, and nights is floating in blackness with your scores at the bottom,he will just stay there..no boss....has anyone else had this problem with a saturn?

Sounds like you have a processor that's going belly-up. I know that the Saturn had like two or three processors that run at various times. And that's likely the reason why so many developers shyed away from the Saturn and prefered the PSX/PS1.
If you are good at soldeiring and working with electronics, then I say buy a busted Saturn and Frankenstein it back to life.

If that's not it, then I got nothin'. :-\

SAturn wise, I am not sure what to do.... but if you know how to butcher, why not try it and see if you can get it to work.... sorry I couldn't be more of a help here.

Bv :hat

You'd be insane to try to desolder and resolder processors into a machine like that. There's about a million parts that could be in question, and not to mention it takes uber patience and a mastery of soldering to do it. I put a new pin connector in a super nintendo years ago and it was a 3 hour job and i'm fairly proficient with a soldering iron. There's desoldering tools that may help but good luck finding exactly what you'll need, especially since you can find a saturn for about 20 bucks now.

Don't discount it before you try it. GW actually succeeded in canabalizing another saturn to get his up and running. From what he said, it runs flawlessly now too. :D

What? I guess owning a computer with a keyboard doesn't necessiarily mean you can read. I've done similar things before, sucessfully might I add, and was saying it was a pain and wasn't worth the time. 1 - 2 hours worth of work at an entry level job can finance the purchase of another saturn. I wasn't saying it was impossible. Kudos btw on that GW, that was a job and a half.

seriously though, cut me some slack i've been gone for a while

The reason that I did not want to simply buy another saturn is that I have owned the same saturn for many years, and it holds some sentimental value to me :)

Um, there was no negative emotion behind what I said. I stated a simple fact that GW sucessfully fixed his Saturn. No big deal, at least from my standpoint.
