Royalty Is The Most Ridiculous Thing On Earth

M

MR.KAZ

Lurker
This is probably going to rub some people the wrong way,but I am not apologizing for it.

I turn on the TV today only to see a documentary on "Queen Elizabeth".Walking down the street with her people, holding her hand out so the people on the side can kiss her hand. That has to be the biggest bunch of crap I've ever seen. This "Royalty" junk is appalling in the truest sense of the word.

Being born into a certain family is supposed to make you something special? The Queen of England holding her hand out so people can kiss it as she walks by with her fancy entourage is the most ridiculous display I've ever seen.

I give respect to people that earn it,not because they happened to be born into some family that considers themselves better than the rest of us,or more worthy of special attention than the rest of us.The people I respect are the Fathers and Mothers that work two jobs to support their family,or a surgeon that spends countless hours in the O.R. trying to save someones life.

Sincerely.

Don't bash something that's different because it's just that. What if they think the president is ridiculous(the job, not the current one)?

Re: Royalty Is The Most Ridiculous On Earth

You have to take it on the viewpoint of the people of the country. The Queen is the symbol of honor and power in their country. Not kissing her hand would be like showing no honor or pride for your country.

The Queen is no more special than anyone else,or to God for that matter.

God can be as special to dirt for some people. For you the Queen means nothing. For someone from England they see the Queen as someone special. Is that too hard to understand?

agreed. they have different cultures and religions, for me god is just a thing that i read about in books, for others is a big symbol of religion..... same can be said about the queen of england or any royal member.

If you talk bad about the Queen you can face imprisonment. You can't say that about talking bad about God. Sure, some people like the Queen and that's their deal. I get what Kaz is saying though.

that's because times have changed for religion (where you could get killed if you opposed Christianity) but England still believes in the queen as their national symbol.... and again to us it might seem something old fashioned but it's just their way to live and is their important symbol like the USA flag is to Americans, we just gotta respect their culture.

Sure, I respect it, but I'm just saying that I agree with Kaz. No man or woman should be treated like they're the ultimate life being.

lol, If you're living in the 16th century, then yes, you can be imprisoned for saying something bad about the queen. If you are living anywhere in the general vicinity of our time, then no, you can't be imprisoned for saying something bad about the queen. I honestly have no idea where you got that one.

I agree however, that English taxpayers shouldn't necessarily have to foot the bill for the royal family, however, the reason so much attention is given to them is not due to the fact that the specific members of the royal family are somehow superior to the rest of us, but because they are a symbol that represents the entire country. There is nothing inherently superior about them, but they are also symbols which hold a great deal of significance.

I just thought it was like that. Calm down.

There is nothing superior about them, yet they're treated like they're superior BECAUSE they stand for a symbol.

Perfectly calm actually. Just reminding you that the Glorious Revolution did indeed happen, and England has been very democratic for quite some time now (it was a gradual change, so it's hard to pinpoint an exact date, but the Glorious Revolution, when England became a permanent constitutional monarchy is a good place to start).

The fact that they are emblematic of something as large as a country means they hold a great deal of significance to a great deal of people. If their safety isn't ensured, and one is assassinated, it is possible that it would cause quite a bit of backlash. Of course, the monarchy has been diminishing in significance for years now, so it might not do as much as it once would. Like I said, I don't think the taxpayers should foot the bill for them, but being a symbol gives someone an incredible amount of significance.

there's always a symbol in most cultures, do you want to contradict most cultures in the world???

So because someone stands as a symbol, we should treat them like they're better than us?

so you think people in their cultures should not worship their symbols, what represent their cultures??? did you know that there's a religion that worships cows, there's others that worship tigers and others that worship even objects like flags, would you tell those people "sorry but i think you should not worship *insert name of symbol here*"?

Jesus Zi. Every time I make a post you have to kill me over it. :lol

And to answer your question. Yes, I don't think people should worship their symbols.

lol, He disagrees with you and he made a post to that affect. Hardly killing you over it.

Why don't we give an example you can relate to, the American flag. Do you think someone should burn the flag or dirty it, or do anything else to disrespect it?

I know you're also a Christian, so if you've ever worn a cross around your neck or taken a communion wafer, you are worshiping a symbol. In the same way, many British feel it necessary to show respect for the royal family because they are a symbol of their country.

that's because i don't really think we should be judging other cultures and criticizing them that way. there's different cultures with different ideas and we should really respect what they believe in and what their symbols represent for them.
