Patiently passing your time in the grassland away
Playing through Splinter Cell:Double Agent on the Playstation 2 just isn't the same as it used to be. Maybe it's the easier diffuclty, the new display hud(which is alot better then those of games past.); or maybe it's that this game seems like a trial version; a way of saying, "hey, there's a better version of me out there, and to get the WHOLE story, you should buy him to." ;D
Don't get me wrong, this game isn't bad, but knowing that the next-gen versions have ALOT more to offer(like more levels, WAAAAAAY better graphics, and more story;) just destroyed it for me. The game is told through a flashback like way where Sam is talking to a man on the phone; a huge cliche that I wish would die and go away. Things that have full cut-scenes and big events in the next-gen versions are only mentioned in the PS2 version. The graphics are almost as good to just about as good as the graphics for the last installment.Chaos Theory) The gameplay is great and the controls are tighter and more responsive then the last games. Missions are shorter, and the whole "pick your own way through the level" thing is gone; which lowers my score. (I embraced the 'own path' way from CT, multiple playthroughs were a must) But this game doesn't offer that at all. It's go through this hall, then this hall, then this room; or get shot the f**k up!!! I played through the game about twice, and Normal and Hard diffculty, and could tell a difference. Expert mode, which is unlocked after beating the game leaves Sam with only his knife and a few gadgets, and seems like fun and challenge for long-time fans. The last mission was worth all of the waiting and going through levels that didn't appeal to me, with hard enemies and great end battles. I give this game a 7/10; mostly because I am such a huge fan of the series and think the best is still coming.
