Resident Evil movies

I just got the Resident Evil (special edition) plus Resident Evil: Apocolypse (special edition) DVD box set.

Anyone else like these movies? Have comparisons or opinions on how good the second movie was?

never seen them ... and never really had the interest to.

I am not sure why.... maybe because I am not too much of a fan of the RE series?

What are the movies like? I have seen previews...etc...

†B†V† :hat

I liked the first one, although I wasn't able to watch it in the theater (I had to wait for the DVD). I have the second one but haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

They're pretty cheesy but I like Milla Jovovich.

I don't think they're cheesy at all, at least not any more than any other action movie or zombie movie. I'd actually put the first RE movie among my favorite movies overall.

I hate them both. Here is why...

Resident Evil Movie #1

Not at all scary..not even in a generic hollywood way.
Has no relation hardly at all to the actual story of the first game.
Underground facility is not at all creepy..should have took place in the Mansion.
There are hardly ANY zombies at all in this movie...I've seen more zombies on screen in many late 70's/early 80's films.
The effects are terrible CGI crap..looks very fake..the Licker is one of the worst modern CGI creations I have yet to see.
Better zombies FX could have easily been acheived by traditional makeup techniques as opposed to heavy CGI.
Super models do not make good heroines..not in Resident Evil, or Joan of Arc.
Terrible acting.

Resident Evil Movie #2

Not even a horror film in the most generic way..this is an all out hollywood style cliche action movie.
Again hardly any actual resemblance of the actual game's storyline.
The Nemesis looks like a bad Hellraiser extra.
The T-virus changes people into zombies..but apparently changes super models into super heroes..wth?
More zombies here...but still nothing that hasn't been done before on much smaller budgets...this is Hollywood people...we should have more zombies.
Stereotipical black man that makes refrences to GTA while running a person over is not funny or even mildly amusing.

Overall....
They are not the worse zombie movies...or the worse videogame related movies...but they are pretty darn close.
I do not like them at all. Just my opinion..and also it should be noted that I have collected horror films for 10+ years and seen virtualy every zombie movie ever made...so my opinions will be slightly skewed.

Well, I don't consider them horror at all. They're action movies. I wasn't scared at all in either of them.

The first movie wasn't based on the videogame in storyline. It was supposed to be taking place before the first game. It's the events leading up to Resident Evil 1.

Milla was in action movies before RE. Fifth Element for example (which was extremely odd, but it was a sci-fi action movie).

From what I'm guessing, you saw it with a lot of expections of how it should be that weren't met. I just took the movie for what it is without comparing it directly to the game too much. Then again, I thought that you didn't even like the RE games much, ackula.

Thats pretty accurate statement..cept I actualy love the RE games...they have just become more and more of a letdown in previous years..The first one is one of my all time favs...but I have high hopes for RE4...looks like they may have finally made the series good again. As a matter of a fact I just received a GC today for almost the sole purpose of playing through RE4 heh.

Oh well, I guess I'm in the minority then. I actually like both movies. I wanted to buy the first one for a while. I decided to hold off and get both movies in a box set though since the box set just came out.

For one, the box set has the cooler, old style Resident Evil front cover on the RE1 DVD instead of the new platinum edition cover.

The second movie had good action, overall I wasn't over-impressed, but, it held up with the original. And, there were a few minutes where I simply was surpised at events to the point of exclaiming "damn" or some such other exlaimative word. I'm not sure how I feel about the ending of Apocolypse though. It was too open-ended, indicating a third movie in the series. It seems that too many movies nowadays leave the surprise ending that indicates that there's more to the story, whether or not an additional movie is planned or even written.

Overall, I think that Resident Evil and Apocolypse are a good few hours of entertainment though.

Yep..thats typical big budget Hollywood trying hard to make a new cash cow instead of a good movie.

If you want to see a good Zombie movie...I suggest the ones that inspired the creators of Resident Evil in the first place...

Night Of The Living Dead
Dawn Of The Dead
Day OF The Dead

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^The holy trinity of Romero zombie classics

theres many more worth seeing..though none really come close to touching the Romero Trilogy imho...

Let's not forget Shaun of the Dead! I've never seen a comedy/horror movie that succeeds so well at being both funny and serious.

Thats very true. I loved that movie, it pulled off what I never expected...like you said horror + comedy..yet still serious.

Its still no Evil Dead 2 though :lol

Ironically, besides watching the two Resident Evil movies, I also rented Shaun of the Dead and Ravenous (okay, not zombies.. but still cannibalism is involved).

Shaun of the Dead was entertaining enough to rent. I don't think that I'll be buying the DVD though.

The first 3 resident evil movies were not bad, the ones after that got a bit silly. I think now there up to movie number 6, I think they should have stopped at 3 or at least made the next 2 movies after that worth watching. Not sure what number 6 is gonna be like. :?

Wow, my opinion has changed over the years. I have Shaun of the Dead on DVD and cannot imagine NOT having it in my collection.

MissScyth, I like the first Resident Evil movie and even the second one. The third and beyond were just terrible, terrible movies though. The second one even was a bit of a push, but they pulled it off (for a cheesy, video-game based franchise). The third one was so bad that when I had rented it, I asked for my money back from the rental place.

Lol iv never heard of someone asking for there money back on that movie, most people I know like the 3rd movie. I agree they got pretty terrible after the 3rd one. Glad I never paid to go see the 4th or 5th movies.

I have Shaun of the dead in my DVD collection too I love that movie. Along with hot fuzz. Also a good movie. :)
