Recession got you down too? Mega's gaming cheap thread.

MegaDrive20XX

Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.
I don't know how many times I heard the word "Lay off" today. How many people are loosing jobs and how it's so bad. So you know what? Don't let money issues effect your gaming habits! Shop Smart! Mega Mart! (hey, Bruce Campbell said I could use it!). This thread is going to focus on games each day that are so good and SO cheap to afford!

So I'm going to start with one of my favorite retro collections that can be found on PS2 or the original Xbox.

Hey there! Welcome back to the next day of the gaming cheap thread. Tonight another classic from the vault EGA. You can find this title brand spanking new for $12.99 at GameStop.com

final-fantasy-12-boxart.jpg

Yes! a shocking truth! $12.99 brand new, it's hard not to say no to such a game! Who said RPG's are expensive these days? You just gotta dig through the wastelands of the recession!

Is there more I can say about this game? Oh yeah, definitely took a different approach to the series in game play, but takes place in the lovely kingdom of Ivalice from the Final Fantasy Tactics universe! Still one of the prettiest PS2 games next to Shadow of the Colossus I'd say!

Welcome back, to day 3. We have a lovely retro collection that can be found on PC or PS2. It sells for a cheap and lovely $9.99 or $8.99 depending on where you purchased it, such as Wal-Mart, GameStop, and etc. This compilation disc contains THIRTY-FIVE GAMES IN TOTAL!

Many special thanks goes out to RETRO JUNKIE for suggesting this lovely gem of a game!

I really like TAITO Legends 2 due to all of the shooters in this compilation. I can play for hours with this disc in my PS2. And I have kept it in for days. There is a lot to like, for me, on this one.

I'm two days behind! ACK! Okay, back on track with TWO games today! 1 for Saturday and one for today!

Okay, it was a DARK AND COLD WINDY SATURDAY NIGHT. It was midnight the 24th on January. I reached for a game that I was dreading...it seemed odd...it seemed...like the horrible....SHOVELWARE!!

Yet, by the light of the night, it seemed alright! For you can't fear it, if he strikes in the middle of the night.....I present this low budget title, which sells for under $15....this PSP to Wii port of the action/platformer.....

::D DEATH Jr. ROOT OF EVIL ::D

Surprise! Surprise! Don't FEAR the Reaper! This game is actually ridiculously FUN and awesome! A Tim Burton-esque theme, very unusual characters, sweet aresenal, and two playable characters named, Death Jr. (or DJ for short) and Pandora the Goth Girl. It has the humor of a Saturday morning cartoon. Take the gameplay style of Maximo: Ghost to Glory from PS2 and MediEvil from PS1/PSP, add the gun aiming skills of Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition, and there you have it! A solid game that was deemed shovel ware accidentally!

To my surprise, Konami let Eidos handle this special edition port. Which imho, turned out very well. One thing I caught quickly, was the soundtrack. It's catchy, it fits the theme of the game beautifully, and it makes me feel like I'm watching a Tim Burton film.

The storyline is cute, you can see they are targeting a younger audience, but with the violence and language (not strong language, just words like, "What the hell?"). It gives the game a T rating.
However, the platformer side of me adores the action and the Ghost N Goblins fun in it! I slap my seal of MEGA APPROVAL on this sweet gem of a port! The control setup is very comfy for a Wii port, easy to pick up, with the helpful tutorial.

The level design is very impressive indeed! I quickly made it to Level 2: The TOY CEMETARY ::D Which had me smiling like a ghoul! Just remember, those old toys you threw away as a kid, always...come...back.... ::D

So no matter which edition you choose, Wii or PSP of Death Jr. Root of Evil. This game is a solid piece of work!

A favorite of everyone I can think of. It's $19.82 at Wal-Mart for PC, PS3, or 360.

THE ORANGE BOX

What can I say? You just can't loose with a solid game title like this! 5 amazing games on one disc!

Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One, and Half-Life 2: Episode 2.
PORTAL
Team Fortress 2

Portal should be the very main reason to own this astounding collection, yet let's not forget the epic story of Half-Life 2. Plus, the insane combat of Team Fortress 2 is a must have for any FPS lover! If you don't own this game, haven't even heard of PORTAL, or haven't even sung "STILL ALIVE" on Rock Band. Just slap yourself stupid and march down to the store. BUY THIS GAME! It's a recession bargain and I COMMAND YOU TO!

Argh! 2 days behind AGAIN! I'm a horrible person :lol Welcome to Jan 26th and Jan 27th of gaming cheap!

Okay, I promised this one yesterday. Yet it's a FANTASTIC Fighting game collection on the PS2! It sells between $10 to $15 at times. Yet it has "SNK" love all over it. I proudly give you,

Okay another one for the Xbox 360 lovers, is a title that sells for under $15. It's from SEGA! It's Cheap! Yet it's a sports title that's LOADED like a baked potato of SEGA CLASSIC GOODNESS! I present!

51EZl-tymRL._AA280_.jpg

SEGA SUPERSTAR TENNIS!

It's so cheap now, thanks to the fact it was released with the Xbox 360 Arcade bundle even! So that effects the value and equals awesome cheap fun for you! Wait, you don't have a 360!? Don't sweat it dudes and dudettes! MEGA has got your back! This badboy was released on PS2, Wii, DS, and PS3 as well! Each are about the same price actually!

So Sega Classic Goodness is probably wondering through your brains, thinking, "What is this guy talking about!??!" WELLLLL. The lovely folks of Sega put alot of hidden characters, themes, and BGM from SO many SEGA titles from over the past 25 years in this gem of a game! A very solid rival to the popular Mario Power Tennis on GameCube!

Cameos from SEGA games such as:
HOUSE OF THE DEAD
GOLDEN AXE
Alex the Kidd
Space Channel 5
VIRTUA COP (aka Virtua Squad on PC)
Space Harrier
Fantasy Zone
Sonic the Hedgehog
Samba De Amigo
Puyo Pop Fever!
NIGHTS: Into Dreams
Jet Set Radio
OUTRUN

Phew! Now that's THE
SEGA%20Logo.gif
I love and adore!

Okay that's it for today and yesterday :D I got one more for tomorrow I swear!

Okay, so it's been bad job on my part. I'm going to try my best to get up and off my dead butt to get this puppy rollin' again. Can you blame me? It's a Recession!

Okay, here's some respect for the system that holds dear to many hearts. The Nintendo GameCube. A title that's well under $10 and can be found at any close by GameStop in your area or on Ebay. A game series that needed a sequel so bad, that it took nearly 8 YEARS to produce. I'm talking today about...

1900_1.jpg

METROID PRIME

A game that can be thanked for the resurrection of a series that finally had a 3D make over. It didn't even harm the classic gameplay even regardless of it's FPS look and appeal. Always a worthy purchase!

I saw this today and honestly, if you love 2D fighters and SNK, you have to get this game. It's on Wii and PS2. Yet, the PSP edition is still $30? Forget that! Go with the Wii or PS2 edition for a lovely $19.99!

THE KING OF FIGHTERS COLLECTION: The Orochi Saga

Oh, so many sweet things I can tell you about this collection. Count'em, FIVE KOF games, on 1 disc.

Includes:
King of Fighters 94'
King of Fighters 95'
King of Fighters 96'
King of Fighters 97'
King of Fighters 98'

If that's not doing it for ya, I don't know what is! I saw this beast at GameStop for that price and even I can't pass that up!

Sure we got "KOF 98 Ultimate" coming, but shoot, why settle for a remake of a Dreamcast port, when I can have 5 DIFFERENT KOF Games!? You'd kick your own butt if you didn't get this game!

Wii users, can use the classic controller too! So it'll feel like a Neo-Geo CD sitting in your house!

Just thought I'd throw a suggestion in there.

If you like complex RPG storylines and fantastic gameplay, I highly recommend...

Xenosaga Episode 1. Easily my favorite RPG on the PS2. There's about 60-100 hours of game play in this gem depending on if you go through with the side missions and such.

And the best part?! You can find this baby for $5.99 used at GameStop. :)

If you try and like this one, you should also try Episode 2 and 3. $7.99 used and $17.99 used respectively.

i was listening to "top 100 RPG battle themes" and i fell in love with some of Xenosaga songs so due to my love of great compositions i will try this one out (as soon as i beat persona 4 that is)

Funny you mention that...that reminds me of the day I first bought Xenosaga Episode 1...after the victory music popped in...it lulled me to sleep. Then for the next few days, when I wanted to sleep but couldn't sleep..I'd beat someone and just listen to the music with my eyes closed till I passed out. :lol
