PSP off to a great start

December 13, 2004 - Japanese sales tracking firm Media Create reports today that Sony Computer Entertainment's new PSP hardware sold 171,963 units on its first day. The system was released to Japan on 12/12, a Sunday.

Media Create also reports that the company sold out of 85.3% of its 200,000 unit initial shipment. If there were an additional 14.7% units remaining, IGN would like to find out where, as we wouldn't mind making some cash on the side.
The PSP launched to huge lines reaching the thousands in some places. IGN found supplies to have completely depleted at stores in the Shibuya area an hour following launch. Expanding our search to other parts of Tokyo the following day, we still couldn't find any units.

The PSP had a much bigger launch in Japan than the DS did.

so... what was nintendo's initial shipment?  I thought that was 500,000 and that is why there were more available in Japan.

The PSP only had 200,000 in their initial shipment and that sold out.

I saw some funny pics of people waiting in cardboard boxes...etc.. for the PSP.  It was pretty funny.

funny that all of the Japanese people will be shocked when there PSP die after three hours...
That's funny. I think my friend charged his PSP one time since getting it, and he's played it for at least an hour a day for the past week. PSP's still going strong.

I don't know how... when I got mine in.. I charged it.. tested it... and it lasted about 3.5-4 hours.

i mean still whats the point of getting a handheld? to play in the car is the best perpous and 3.5 hours is just not that good at all! now the ds runs about 13-14 hours for a lit DS game. and 18-19 hours for a GBA game

Car adapter?

seriusly, to me the PSP doesn't seem like a GBA at all, for one , this is the first handheld to really break the barrier of the 'family friendly' status the GBA got, and for another thing, movies, mp3 PS2 graphics!
why buy a handheld,
I think that answers your question.

:lol It is suited for car travel, you're just caught up on the fact that you want to be able to play it for 20 hours straight. If 4 hours is not enough for you (and it very well could exceed this, depending on whether you're watching a movie, the type of game you're playing, or listening to music) then you can always buy a second battery, or use a car adapter.

If anything the DS is not suited for travel. Could you imagine trying to use a stylus while on a bumpy road in hectic traffic?

that doesn't make any since. if i am on a plane and it is going to take 8 hours to get there what would you prefer. a game station that you can play for three hours or one that you can play for three times that?

and the DS games are far more fun and addictive than the graphical showcase the PSP has.

i am not a gamer who purchases a game Marley on "cool features and graphics" i buy it for the games and if i am going to have fun playing this?

Anything is hard to play on a bumpy road.  Even if you're just using a GBA SP.

The PSP would be hard on a bumpy road too though because of the analog nub. It would be hard to play something like Ridge Racer under those conditions. You might hit a bump and accidently crash your car in Ridge Racer.  :p

Under normal driving conditions, using a stylus so far hasn't presented me with any problems.

But honestly, I don't know why everyone has to do all this PSP vs. DS crap. If you can afford both, just get both. They both offer something worthwhile. I know if I could afford it I would be playing a PSP, and I already have a DS.

You can play Lumines for 12 hours straight. 3 hours is an average battery life (and its actually more like 4-4.5), but its all on a game to game basis.

I'll assume that you've played every game for the DS and every game for the PSP. Otherwise, you have nothing to back up that assessment with.

How many PSP games have you even played? Which ones did you play? Are you aware of how many games and what type of games are coming out in the future? There are very few games out on either system, and right now people are making their purchase on which system's features and graphics they prefer. If you like to touch and blow things, the DS is for you. If you like superb graphics and listening to music, the PSP is for you.

My point being that if others are going to say the PSP is not made for travel, then I can say the DS is not made for travel, and each of us would be right.
