I played Dynasty Warriors, puzzle bobble pocket, vampire chronicles, and puyo pop.

Well... the load times are real.  Though not as bad as what I thought... they are still noticeable.

Now, dynasty warriors seems to have a lot of popup and the textures up close.... you can see some of the pixels...etc.
It does look good / sounds good, but honestly, the graphics (from these games) are not as good as what I thought.
Dynasty warriors wouldn't work with the D pad... only the stick.

Yes, they are better than the ds's...  but still not near what I thought they were/should have been.
Yes, the screen is nice and big... .but it gets finger prints..... real real easily... including the surrounding parts of the system.

I am going to play it more... and see if it grows on me at all.

I have a better comparison.... noise and loads times are very comparible to the Dreamcast. This thing it noisy as it loads.
Vampire Chronicle does not look too bad... it played decently.

Ok, it's 20 questions time since you've had hands-on play time. :p

1) You have one in stock, as in to sell?

2) Assuming yes, what is your price?

3) If not, how and why did you come by it?

4) How is the analog nub?

5) Is the Square button less responsive than other buttons?

6) Don't games look kind of weird in a widescreen format?

7) How's the battery so far?

8) How are the UMDs?

Ok, so that's only 8, but that's all I can think of at the moment. ;)

Bring it on :lol j/k

1) You have one in stock, as in to sell?
~ yes, in stock to sell.  Japanese format value pack (with memory card) Dynasty warriors, Vampire chronicle, Puzzle bobble pocket, puyo puyo fever (I believe it is).

2) Assuming yes, what is your price?
~ To be determined... I am probably just going to drop it on Ebay because I don't have a lot of time right now, and I am in a process of eliminating over 1000 items out of our inventory (about 1/4th our inventory) while I am in school. If someone wants to drop me a package offer.. I am all ears.
I'll have the US ones when they come out.

3) If not, how and why did you come by it?
~ someone traded it in to the shop :)

4) How is the analog nub?
Its ok. Its not too bad. It just doesn't stick up that far. It feels like you could break it pretty easily. I doubt thats the case, thats just how it feels.
It controls decently IE in Dynasty Warriors.

Now on the D pad.... if you do semicircle patterns (done in fighters) or quarter circle pattersn (done in fighters).... it seems less responsive. IE as you move around to the other buttons.... they are already pressed. It doesn' t seem like 4 independent buttons....

5) Is the Square button less responsive than other buttons?
yes, it does not press down as well as the others. It is actually not as high as the other buttons (due to case design).

6) Don't games look kind of weird in a widescreen format?
~ a little bit. They look crisp, but at the same time... the games look a slightly bit blurred. I do mean ever so slight. This is mostly for title screens though.
Games like Dynasty Warriors..... seemed pixelated a bit... and that game suffered from pop up. The screen automatically dims and gets brighter as you stop playing / play.

7) How's the battery so far?
So far, not too bad... but I am not going to have 3 hours to play it :lol

8) How are the UMDs?
They are ok... its easy to get fingerprints on the disc itself though. Just the location of the "hole." They are not bad though. But I do have a gripe about the loads and CD's / moving parts in a handheld. The do tend to pop out when you open the system. The spring eject is pretty strong. So watch where you open your systems..etc.

Ok, so that's only 8, but that's all I can think of at the moment.  ;)
If you have more, ask away :)

@ Grindspine. Its hard to keep your fingers off the buttons :lol You play it... you get smears on the case from your natural skin oils.
Thats how sensitive the casing is. Since the control and buttons are pretty close to the screen (and since they are small) your fingers tend to overlap onto the screen. This does not cause any gameplay problems, but fingerprints on the left and right side of the screen are VERY common. This screen does scratch easily too.
Lets just say it this way. Want to catch your criminal's finger print? just have them touch the PSP.

At a touch, the PSP seems to be a little more sturdy, BUT when you hold it and play... the system creaks (ie the plastic). So I am not sure what to think on that.

I played Puzzle Bobble today. and it wasn't too bad, I liked it. Except..... after the round, it said please wait for about

Now.. it was weird because last night when I played it... there was loading noise (with Dynasty warriors). But today... there is no loading noise. Last night it was sounding like a Dreamcast a bit :lol (not as loud though).

HEY! about the PSP Square button issue.... did you see this?

Dave please tell me everything you can about Vampire Chronicles...hows it control..are moves easy to pull off, how many characters, are the backgrounds new or recycled from previous Vampire games...just anything you can think of to tell me...this is the only game that interests me at this point and I'm trying to decide if I want one based on this game alone right now.

Yeah, that's why I asked. Apparently, because of the Square button's proximity to the screen, the sensor underneath it is located slightly to the right of the Square button instead of directly underneath it.

Thanks for the answers though. I do want a PSP at some point, but the launch price is a bit too much and there's nothing coming out at the moment that I want. I'm waiting for Tales of Eternia and Infected, at least, and maybe something else will come along too.

someone traded it in to the shop

Already? :lol Did they say why? They must have traded all those games at the same time, too, right?

YUCK YUCK YUCK!!!!!

That design is horrible! The square button compromising with the screen? That's a serious design flaw IMO. The screen that close to the buttons is just silly. Who the heck thought that modern nonsense up?

::)

whats what I was saying .... heck... just pushing the buttons gets smears on the screen.

and the top of the system is nice and glossy.... but it doesn't take long for fingerprints to get all over it.... and every time you get done playing you have to clean it off to make it look nice again.

not to keep flogging the dead horse, but a couple other things I had my attention brought to.

My buddy told me to look at the R and L buttons and see if they were loose like his.
They are. The do flop back and forth (wiggle up and down).

but my biggest grip is the 2-2.5 hours of charging to play 3-3.75 hours.

The screen.... I don't think anyone can complain there. That is the best feature of the system.

:? answers dude! :lol

Poop... I missed that question man... my apologies :D

well... the moves aare ok to pull off... but look a couple posts up on how the Dpad reacts.
Graphics aren't bad.. BUT I have not played any of the other versions to draw a good comparison unfortunately :(

I haven't played it all that much as of yet.

I know thats not much help...

So..not that responsive for fighters...darn

I hate to hear that..the only game that interested me was Vampire Chronicles.

Thats one of Capcoms greatest series as far as character design goes imo.

like I said though.... I don't have experience on how the other versions are.... so I don't really know on a camparison of version to version.

Wow. PSP seems worse and worse the more I read about it.

EDIT:
For my birthday/Xmas present, my bro got me a PSP. Everything's in Japanese. Is there a way I can keep it and use American games on it? Or is it region-coded and I'm locked out?

EDIT 2:
I called Sony, and so did the employee at GameCrazy. Both times Sony said it cannot play US games or movies, but we think they may be lying because they don't want US citizens playing the PSP before they should... I plan to sell it for a US version. I think I could get a hefty price off eBay since it'll be sold here in the US, it comes with Ridge Racer, and it has NO DEAD PIXELS whatsoever. And it's guaranteed to work, I've played it :woot :woot :woot

Either eBay or the guy at GameCrazy said he'd buy it after researching a bit :D

The systems themselves, and the games, are region free. You probably just have to change the settings somehow.

The only thing that will be region-specific for the PSP will be the UMD movies.

Yeah, but if I can sell it and get the American version, I'd rather do that. Then it'll come with all the accessories (memory stick, soft case, etc.) and more games than I have now. That and the fact that I can use the movies when they come out.

So I've had the chance to play a PSP and some games, and here are some of my thoughts.

The system itself:
It's more comfortable to hold than a DS, and it looks better from an aesthetic standpoint. The widescreen in particular is quite nice. :D It's very glossy and stylish, but like people have mentioned, it gets fingerprints on it really fast. And something I found really amusing was that for both PSPs that I played, the person who owned it bought a screen cover already, which makes me think that Sony should have just done a clamshell design to begin with. ;) Then it would look even cooler.

So now the games:

Darkstalkers
Darkstalkers rocks. When I get a PSP, that will probably be one of the first games I pick up. It looks and plays pretty well. Of course, since I have never really played Darkstalkers before, I got my butt kicked. :lol

Wipeout Pure
I really sucked, so I'm just biased, but I think it's an ok game, but not great. It's really pretty but I found it hard to control with the analog nub. If I was going to get a racing game I would probably go with Ridge Racers over Wipeout Pure.

Anyway, I like the PSP but I still think it's overpriced. I'm gonna wait for the price drop. Or hope that someone gets it for me for Christmas or something. :D
