PSP game releases declining?

MegaDrive20XX

Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.
Which is odd, the PSP has sold over 45 Million units. Yet, what is causing these companies to refuse releasing more titles for the handheld? Give this article a read, it has a solid argument about the current state of the PSP.

really? because it has had like a gazillion of games i want to get every month

Meh, Kotaku has been so anti Sony lately, I don't really take what they say seriously anymore. Lots of PSP games I wanna pick up and looking forward to

What? We know theres over 80 games coming this fall according to Sony, and the lineup for titles in 2011 is stronger than in recent years. Kotaku is ignoring games that were as recently announce in july and all those titles that were announced coming by end of this year from Akysys (Blazing Souls accelate), 2 games from NIS (ZHP and Dungeon Crawler), two YS games (the one in August and the Oath in Felghana), I believe a shooter from Ubisoft as well too.

let's not forget Valkyria chronicles 2

There are those publishers that seem to be reluctant to put a game on the PSP lately. I was disappointed earlier this year when "Transformers: the war for cybertron" was MIA for the PSP.
Really there is no reason, that I can see, why they are not pumping out the titles for the PSP like the PS2 was supported during its lifetime. And I do not buy the "piracy" excuse that is being thrown around. There is piracy going on with the PS1, PS2, and the PS3. Every previous console and portable has its share of piracy.
When you have a lot of support from game publishers, it opens doors for the system to a wide variety of gamers. Few games limits the variety and equals fewer systems sold.
Is Sony somehow responsible for this? Are they really behind their handheld lately? As has been said, there are a lot of games being released for the PSP this year, I hope that it is enough? With a shift to the $9.99 greatest hits titles, maybe that will spark some PSP sales.

If Sony's working on a phone, I could see why developers and publishers would stop doing as much for the PSP. They'll probably shift focus to the phone if it happens. Although, I really doubt Sony would be able to compete with the iPhone. The iPhone is too trendy and has too much of a headstart. Sony would need something really special to differentiate and convert people to use their phone over the iPhone.

i just hate the idea of a phone being the successor of the psp though >_>

Yeah but publishers and developers are not stopping with PSP releases even next year. I think the PSP successor will not be a phone. A phone capable of connecting to the PSN and playing some content is perhaps guaranteed (even their vaios are guaranteed to have this functionality).

They really wouldn't need a phone. All they would need is a PSP with the capabilities of connecting to the net like a iphone. Accessing the PSN where ever you are. You already have "skype." Of course your looking at then paying for monthly services.

edit: Or maybe an option to "pay-as-you-go." That would be what I would go for.

I think there is bit of decline between the number of title being released now compared to the rescent past but I think it has more to do with the PS2 being put out pasture then the PSP popularity. With PS2 games coming to an end for the most part that means the PSP has lost the console that it can most easily port games to and from that invariably is going to cause some decline in the number of titles being released.
