PSP 2 to be unveiled at E3?

It's been three years since the PSP came out and it's enjoyed strong sales, especially recently. Big releases, like FFVII: Crisis Core and God of War: Chains of Olympus, and a new model have kept sales around 200,000-300,000 units a month, in North America alone. There is now however, virtually no high profile title coming out for the PSP for the foreseeable future. With absolutely nothing to keep the PSP selling, it is seeming more and more like a spent force which is why I think Sony will unveil their next handheld at this E3. I have no source on this, not even a rumor. Just a gut feeling. ;)

I think Sony should take a break to learn what is a priority in a handheld system. They seemed too hell bent on making it like a console you can drag around.

So you don't want them to make another handheld so they can fix that easily correctable mistake and produce a better handheld? you can't expect perfection on Sony's first stab at a handheld. You can expect many of the things that were wrong with the PSP to be fixed in the PSP 2.

I never said don't want them to, I said take a break.

Yes, except the PSP2 is wishful thinking.

I think they'll try to squeeze out the PSP a bit more. They enjoy long lasting systems, no?

agreed, sony should try to get more titles like the recent ones to boost the psp a bit more before they release the PSP2

I could imagine that a New PSP would be quite exciting, but I think increasing the amount of productivity and innocative software is the right way to go.

They don't have any problems with shipments and innocative isn't a word. If you meant innovative, it's getting hard to innovate now, especially on a handheld system with no special features beyond widescreen.

Offering innovative new things in software, for example they do wonders with all the things that are on the Firmware, internet radio, camera abilities, gps, the possibilities are endless as to what they can add.

Examples being...?

I'll let this debate between the two of you continue, but please, keep things civil. Remember... we're all friends here.

I'm not your friend, buddy! Sorry, I just couldn't resist.

Anyway, I think it'll be at least another year before Sony announces a new handheld. Just a feeling.

Hehe, seems I'm pretty much alone in thinking it's time for a new PSP. Well, we'll see in a couple days I guess.
I'm not your buddy, guy!

well it's just too early to think of next-gen consoles or handhelds yet, i mean the slim psp was announced last year.

Sony will be releasing a new "mystery gadget" Monday, with the tagline style, performance, and mobility redefined. Seems like this could be the next PSP, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Performance and Mobility seem like two words that would be the last of the main focus of the PSP.

I could imagine Sony is introducing an Intel Atom based netbook. The three tag lines would fit to such a product.
