Just as bears aren't really the number-one threat to America as asserted by Stephen Colbert on The Colbert Report, Wii isn't the number-one threat to gamers as many industry pundits have recently griped. Their argument goes something like this: If Wii is a huge success, then game publishers will put all their development dollars, yen, pounds, and euros into making Wii Sports knock offs and sushi-rolling sims while more complex titles for core gamers will become as rare as grizzly bears in Manhattan. The argument ignores publishers' primary motivation, which is money. Money, to the tune of more than 10 billion dollars annually, has flowed from gamers to game publishers over recent years, and most of the spending was on shooters, adventures, RPGs, and other core-friendly titles. The thought that game companies would turn their backs on that market is as silly as ignoring the real number-one threat: naked mole rats! At least that's what NP's naked-mole-rat expert, Chris Hoffman, has to say on the matter.
Further evidence that traditional game genres are as healthy as ever can be seen by this month's Metroid Prime 3: Corruption cover story. According to senior writer Steve Thomason, Retro Studios' long-anticipated title is worth the wait. I boldly predict that with one flick of the Wii remote Metroid Prime 3 will make believers out of critics everywhere. And the story on DS is jus as positive. The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is quite possibly the best DS game ever. So the next time you hear some bearish boor proclaim gaming doom at the hands of the Wii, ignore the growling. it's just noise. And remember that naked mole rats attack silently!

It may sound a bit strange given Wii's stellar success in the marketplace, but Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is the game that finally proves Nintendo's new console. While Twilight Princess and Super Paper Mario were great, both began life as GameCube titles, and thus didn't fully showcase what Wii brings to the table. Corruption is the first full-fledged game published by Nintendo that's been built from the ground up for the system.

I'm really psyched for the holiday line-up on the Wii. Between Corruption, Fire Emblem, SSBB, and Super Mario Galaxies, my Wii batteries are going to be recharging a lot.

This holiday is going to be awesome....the clash of video game titans on christmas. <------Headlines

I disagree with that. I feel that the games coming out for hardcores this holiday probably won't continue consistently. After early 2008, Nintendo's first parties are finish, and as a third party developer, why would you want to appeal to hardcore gamers if a large percentage of Wii owners are casual?
