No nvidia 470/480 from xfx?

Apparently XFX has decided to stick with the ATI Radeon high end cards for the time being and not release the new Fermi chips coming from nVidia for the time being. Rumor is that xfx will still support nvidia budget models, but not the bleeding edge cards.

It's a pity too; those cards looked friggin' awesome!

thats fine with me.. nVidia screwed ALOT of companies over by not producing any cards for nearly a year. companies that were exclusively nVidia got facerolled when ATI released the 5xxx series of cards. also the 470/480 cards run VERY hot (80*C?!?!?!?!?)

Everyone is saying they run hot, but that's why the reference design is loaded with five heatpipes. I also suspect that the metallic knobbed look on the 480 is actually an extention of the heatsink instead of just asthetic choice.

Nvidia did come out with the GTX260, 275, 285, and 295 last year, then were working on the 9xxx series before that. However, I do see what you mean about overall design. Many of the 9000 series cards were remodels of 8000 series. My 8800gt has slightly better specs than any stock 9800gt did since it was an earlier run with a better binned G92 chip.

Still, it's a bummer that those cards won't come out since I've been happy with my xfx cards and their version of the 470 and 480 looked friggin' awesome.
