Neo Geo CD Neo-Geo CD disk won't spin, but the lens seems to work fine. Very confused =(

Hello all,

Very new to neo geo but I just ordered a system that arrived today and the system powers on fine, does the boot screen, goes to the cd menu and then just stays there, as the system is failing to make the disc spin at all (several mint condition games came with the system). I took it apart following luke morse1's video steps, and the pin pressing down against the horizontal black bar on the front board doesn't seem to be the issue as the pin is not sticking and it easily pushes the horizontal bar down. I tried to just very gently, physically move the cd spinner around and it seems so tight and jammed that it won't move without a little force, so I'm guessing this is the issue, but I have no idea how to solve it if it is the case. Has anyone experienced this? Is there even a remedy for it? Sorry for not knowing all the terms of the inert of the system, but I think most people will kind of understand what I'm saying (I hope, heh, again, I'm very new to SNK)

If anyone has any ideas, I'd greatly appreciate anything
thanks so much for just taking the time to read this,
David

This is a top loader unit, sorry, forgot to mention that...

the lens motor is working and when the system powers on, it moves toward the spindle to read the disc, but the actual plastic unit housing the lens which runs on the rail, is hitting the bottom part of the rubber circle that surrounds the spindle and it just gets stuck making the spindle impossible to move, so the disc won't spin. The motorized lens unit refuses to move back from this position.

Sorry for posting a follow up, I just saw now, that the lens motor unit was doing this. Any help or even any attempt at help will be immensely appreciated as I'm beyond lost here, heh...

I should have just gone with the consolized MVS, but as a collector, I wanted this damn cd system, and I wanted it to be my first foray into the world of NEO GEO console ownership....unfortunately it has been anything but positive so far. Sorry if I sound a little negative, I'm just a bit exhausted and frustrated =(

thanks again,
David

I'm not familiar with the particular unit, but, it sounds like that rubber ring is out of place. Can you nudge it back into place with a q-tip or tweezers without causing damage to the unit?

Thanks for the reply. It's so strange because, I thought the same thing you just mentioned, but it doesn't appear to be out of place, It's strange, the motorized lens unit that runs along the metal bar looks as though it is supposed to hit a piece of black plastic near the rubber, and it doesn't look out of place either, but the motorized lens unit just trucks right up to it, touching it, yet still, when it does this, it hits the rubber circle around the spindle and at that point any disc spinning is impossible.....

I'm feeling like I might have taken a $135 dollar hit on the system alone =(, but that's not the worst part of it, I also bought Metal Slug 2 which is one of the more rare and expensive neo geo cd games, so, factor that in, another $80 hit...yeah, heh, not a good situation I'm in unfortunately.

Thanks for replying, I rly do appreciate the look at my post,
David
