What does this mean? Probably some better customer service policies and enjoyment for your Xbox Live experiences.

To break it down:

Stephen Toulouse, handler of Xbox Live Terms of Service policing, appeared on last Sunday's Major Nelson podcast to speak about how Microsoft is handling the concerns of the GLBT community. He recently sat down with two representatives from GLAAD to speak about the policy and what Microsoft could be doing better. Speaking about the meeting, Toulouse said, "We asked them the question, 'How can we do this better?' ... That dialog was super, super helpful. I think it was a great engagement."

Problems arose in late February when an Xbox Live user named "Teresa" identified her sexual preference in her profile and was subsequently suspended from the service, seemingly due to self-identifying as a lesbian. Microsoft told us at the time that it suspends accounts that identify "any form of sexual orientation" and it seems as though Mr. Toulouse and GLAAD are working toward a more hospitable situation for everyone involved (be they from the GLBT community or not).

We reached out to GLAAD for comment on the meeting and spoke with Justin Cole, the Director of Digital & Online Media, who told us, "They [Microsoft] were very, very receptive and welcoming with all the suggestions. They even admitted that their policy isn't the best in the world. What we, at the end of the meeting, decided is that we're going to have quarterly meetings with them. They're going to be heading out to a panel on homophobia and online gaming in Silicon Valley that we're putting together later this year." We'll be speaking with Mr. Cole in the upcoming days and finding out more about the future of GLAAD's involvement with Xbox Live and, in general, online gaming.

One thing I hope they improve, is sexuality in a person's profile. After reading some issues of some gay Xbox LIVE members being banned or forced to change their name is a big change for them that needs to happen now.

Yet one thing I'd love to see a better improvement on, is able to change the EXACT price of points you need for a purchase instead of buying more points than you freakin' need!

Take a chapter from PS Network. You only have to pay what the price is with tax and NOTHING more.

Yeah, it bothers me to no end that everything on the marketplace is at even prices ($5, $10) and points only come in multiplaes of $6.25. I suspect this is a psychological ploy to get people to buy more (and I'm sure it works) but I don't like it.

It's nice they are putting in some effort.

While they are addressing the issue, it would also be nice to see them try and think of a solution for the rampant homophobia that goes in during games (like Halo 3).

Well, to be honest, the homophobia is more of a reflection of the culture of the United States than a result of people playing on XBL (that is, a culture where bashing gays is socially acceptable). To solve that would require a larger effort than even a megacorporation like MS could do. The best they could do would be taking reports of homophobia more seriously than other bad feedback, but that would be seriously suspect to abuse.

Yeah, that's true. Maybe in the rep section when you choose to avoid a player, they could add a specific category for racist or homophobic bashing, so that MS knows it's not just general trash-talking.
